the only way this has any chance of happening is that Paul George EXPLODES Darren Collison style this year before the trade deadline.
Whenever I watch Granger, I see a guy who falls in love with the 3-point line and doesn't drive in nearly enough. It's pretty frustrating to watch at times. I don't think I would say he's a better slasher or finisher than Martin -- Danny loves the 3PT line too much for that to happen. Plus he's not the world's greatest dribbler.. but you're right about his defense vs. Martins.
Wow talk about fantasy NBA2K10 team... oh wait the Heat have already accomplished that. You guys are either seriously undervaluing these players worth or overvaluing ours. There is no way if the Blazers had to give this up for a possible CP3 trade we will definitely have to put in more than Ariza/AB. We'd have to give up Hill, Bud, Taylor, and Ariza or Shane with AB. That's some serious talent plus a possible NY pick.
Paul George and DG are great friends. George wants to play SG so Granger can play SF. They can coexist imo.
Glad somebody made a thread devoted to Granger instead of Melo for a change. Giving up Brooks is crazy though. I only see the Rockets getting Danny if they can steal him, or quasi-steal him due to financial or redundancy issues with the Pacers. It's very difficult to imagine the "LeBron" of Indiana becoming redundant to a rookie Paul George though.
I don't think Indiana is going to look to trade until the deadline. The team is financial trouble but next year changes everything. The team salary this season is $67M, but they only have $18M on the books for next year and $12M of that is Granger. I think they will try and build around him since they will be way under the cap and he is young and under contract until 2014. Ford($8M), Dunleavy($10M), Murphy($12M) are off the books this season so teams are going to want them at the deadline. I want Granger but I just don't think the Pacers are in any rush to unload him.
I doubt Morey tries to swing a deal for a superstar before the deadline. A couple of reasons why: 1. Teams will be more willing to move their best player as the deadline nears 2. Because these teams will be more willing to trade, the Rockets won't have to give up as many assets 3. Why make a trade for a final piece before you are sure Yao is fully healthy? If Yao is healthy up to the trade deadline, then I fully expect Morey to swing a deal for an impact player (Melo, Paul, Granger).
That's why the Rockets would definitely have to give up more than spare parts. Brooks would be a good starting place, and they might demand Kevin Martin + a young potential guy or two(Hill, Bud, Pat), and draft picks. Then they throw us back the spare parts. I wouldn't give up Kevin Martin, but if they'd sub Ariza/Battier for him, I'd do that in a second. Lowery could start for a lot of teams in this league and the Rockets need another All-Star to even pretend to be contenders. In any case, this is all moot. The Pacers certainly won't move Granger at the start of the season. Perhaps near the trade deadline when it is obvious they can't win as is...
I formulated a trade proposal scenario along these line, but it also included the Phoenix Suns because I'd love to have Steve Nash groom Aaron Brooks. Here's the link: Rockets, Pacers, Timberwolves & Suns Trade Proposal MY THOUGHTS: As I trolled the forums, I noticed a lot of Clutch Fans are hoping we land Carmelo or CP3, but the rumors seem to point to, like Bosh, neither of them choosing to play in Houston. They want NY and I'm sure they'll get their wish. On a more inspirational note, I've had the privilege of watching this team grow and develop into the blue-collar organization it is today. I am sure every Clutch Fan will agree with me that the players currently on the roster are of outstanding character. So why acquire players with questionable character, rather than trying to acquire a star(s) who exemplify the same work ethic of our organization? I'll admit, I believe we have a playoff caliber team, but they're still long shot to win it all. From my point of view, we have a very limited time frame in which to act if we want the Rockets to win a championship before we'll have to wait a few years. Miami still has to gear up and our main obstacles to the Finals are aging (Spurs, Mavs, Lakers). I would argue this immediate year, 2010-2011, and 2011-2012 are our best shots at winning. Reason being Miami will have had 2 years to put together a solid lineup around Wade, Bron and Bosh and the young guns in the Western Conference (Thunder, Blazers) will have matured and developed. I haven't included the rest of the WC teams because it is my belief with the following acquisitions we will be able to take care of business. That's why this off-season I have my eyes set on Danny Granger and Steve Nash... Is it a fools dream? Yeah... but this is ClutchFANS forum. As a fan, I have the privilege of dreaming and hoping, because at the end of my Rockets day, what else can I do but trust in Morey and share my thoughts? I need basketball crammed into my cranium and the silence is killing me, so I'll go ahead and make some "noise" while Daryl Morey works his magic. So here it is. My... UPDATED 3-PART TRADE PROPOSAL: The basic framework for the trade is as follows: [link]Rockets, Pacers, Timberwolves, Suns Trade Proposal PART I: Sign Kyle Lowry and Luis Scola. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PART II: 4-Way trade between Rockets, Pacers, Suns & Timberwolves. Outgoing Player(s)/Asset(s) - HOUSTON ROCKETS: -Kyle Lowry (Represented by Aaron Brooks on Trade Machine) -Jordan Hill -Shane Battier -Jared Jeffries -2011 NY 1st Round Pick -2012 NY 1st Round Pick -2011 Houston 1st Round Pick INDIANA PACERS: -Danny Granger PHOENIX SUNS: -Steve Nash MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES: -Ramon Sessions Incoming Player(s)/Asset(s) - HOUSTON ROCKETS: -Danny Granger -Steve Nash INDIANA PACERS: -Kyle Lowry -Jordan Hill -Trevor Ariza -Shane Battier -2011 NY 1st Round Pick -2011 Houston 1st Round Pick PHOENIX SUNS: -Ramon Sessions -Jared Jeffries -2012 NY 1st Round Pick ...Why each team agrees to the proposed trade... >Rockets: Receive Danny Granger and Steve Nash, immediately putting them into Championship contention while keeping Brooks, C-Bud and Scola. >Pacers: Fill their immediate need at the point with Kyle Lowry, whom they've shown interest in. Receive Ariza, J. Hill, Battier, 2011 NY 1st Round Pick, 2011 Houston Rockets 1st Round Pick. (Probably not enough because they'd probably want AB0 or C-Bud. ) >Suns: They trade Nash to a contending team helping him finish his career off strong, receive a lottery PG in Sessions, allowing them to showcase and develop Dragic at the point while having a potent 1/2 combo. They also receive NY's 2012 1st Round Pick (have their own 2011 1st Round Pick) to help acquire talent in rebuilding. Throw in Jared Jeffries for good measure. >Timberwolves: Read somewhere they were trying to get rid of Sessions (*shrugs*). By sending him to the Suns, they get part of Amare Stoudemire's TE (I don't really know how those work, but I know it has to do with cap space, which is what Minny is looking for). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PART III: Find Yao a backup... SOLUTION: Sign Brad Miller for part of the MLE... CLOSING COMMENTS: This trade is incredibly tricky to complete because ideally we want to keep Brooks, C-Bud & Scola. We promised Ariza a long-term role in the development of this organization, but something's gotta give. What we have going for us is Indiana's need to fill their massive hole at PG and Minnesota's want of cap space. The rest is conjecture... BUT if we can somehow get Ricky Rubio in the mix (although everyone would probably want him on the Rockets), we would be able to shuffle Ramon Sessions to the Pacers (take away 2011 Houston 1st Round Pick & give them 2012 NY 1st Round Pick), Ricky Rubio to the Suns (take away NY 2012 1st Round Pick & give 2011 Houston 1st Round Pick) and throw the 2011 NY 1st Round Pick the Timberwolves'+filler, it'd be much easier to get it done, me thinks. HOUSTON ROCKETS 2010-2011 Lineup: C : Ming/Miller PF: Scola/Patterson SF: Granger/Budinger SG: Martin/Taylor PG: Nash/Brooks Aaron Brooks... 2009-2010 MIP... 2010-2011 6th Man... Future All-Star. Brain hurts & pointless is pointless, but I had some time to kill and dreams that Clutchfans can now haze me for.
granger regressed last year in indiana after improving 2 years ago. that could be due to being in a losing situation but indiana had high hopes of making the playoffs prior to the season. but he's a really good offensive player who doesn't do much else (no he doesn't play defense). he's like a blacker version of kmart w/o the ability to getting to the ft line but better at creating his own shots.
I should have checked multiple sources or I just misunderstood the information on the website. Thank you for clarifying.
Granger's niche in the league was defense before he came into his own as a scorer. And he's still a good defender and can defend the 4. He shoots 7 FTs a game, which is the same as Yao Ming.
yes thanks. bad info I get it. already been called out this is worse than posting a screen cap with a p*rn tab open... my apologies for the title, as well...BUT - Danny Granger : Best Available Asset Left on the Market just didn't quite have the same ring to it...
Strike Granger off the list of star players that could be be available. Indianapolis giving the Pacers $10M/yr to stay + $3.5M/yr to improve the stadium. The Pacers might even hope for a lockout next season. They will continue to receive that money regardless. http://www.theindychannel.com/sports/24275193/detail.html
I dont know why Granger keeps coming up on this board as being available. He's resonably paid and all their other contracts are expiring so he's the perfect person to build around. Indy is not trading him for anyone we have.
Indiana's financial trouble has been well documented...hence the idea we might have been able to prey upon the weak for a salary dump. but worzel's post kind've throws a monkey wrench in that whole line of thinking...
I don't know if it's the final piece, but it's going to be a long season if the Rockets don't find a quality backup for Yao.
This is what everybody else is failing to notice. No way they trade him with all those expiring contracts.
