error, passed ball, passed ball, error A couple of weeks ago when the Astros were 1-hit they scored 2 runs without benefit of a hit. When the Astros were the Colt .45s, their pitcher, Ken Johnson, actually lost a 9 inning no-hitter 2-1.
In 1990, Andy Hawkins of the NYY threw 8 innings of no-hit ball, but a couple of walks and 3 straight errors gave the White Sox 4 runs. White Sox were the home team, so the bottom of the 9th isn't played. Not only does Hawkins get the loss on a day where he gives up no hits, he doesn't get credit for a no-hitter because he didn't go 9 full innings.
Wikipedia to the rescue. Not a no-no but he did have a string of good outings where bad luck played a role in his losses Unfortunately, Hawkins' bad luck was to continue after his flawed masterpiece. In his next appearance, he faced the Minnesota Twins at Yankee Stadium in the opening game of a doubleheader. Hawkins pitched a shutout into the twelfth inning but wound up losing 2-0. To top it off, in his next start, the Yankees lost a six-inning no-hitter to Melido Perez and the White Sox.
I saw the breakdown on SC... Man, he was right, they're suppose to leave him alone during innings...He got jinxed...
