I think the assumption that most of the voters operate on is that a superstar who is a good defender would be GREAT if they didn't have so many other responsibilities.

I think there is some evidence of this being true. When Kobe played in the Olympics his defense was much better. I have a feeling he could step it up even more if his primary job on offense was spacing the floor. Honestly, it is near impossible for a perimeter player to expend as much energy on defense as Battier does and be the focus of the offense.

TM: Timetable is middle of next season, but shooting to be ready by first pre-season game. Have to be precautions.

DP: More painful- surgery recovery or watching team lose?
TM: Watching them lose. They went through so much with all the injuries.

DP: If you were healthy, who would've won?
TM: We would've had a better chance.

DP: But it was 7 games? Surely you would've made the difference.
TM: Yeah but that 7th game was so tough. We were exposed without a go-to guy. We did so many things wrong in that game. But the game would've been different if I and Yao were there.

DP: More concerned about yours or yao's injury?
TM: Yao's. Concerned about his foot. Don't know if it's the minutes or playing in the summer.

DP: Is your future in Houston?
TM: I hope so. I like the organization.

DP: What about all the whispers around you?
TM: Are they better without me? I don't think so. I'm sure all those guys will take me on that team.

DP: Jerry West says Lebron is better than Kobe. your thoughts?
TM: I'd pay to watch both of them. Right now, I'd say Lebron because of young legs, very entertaining, dunks a lot. Kobe is older and has moved past that, but is still a beast closing out the game.

DP: Ultimate complement is having the ball in your hands to end the game. Who's the better defender on you?
TM: I don't know. Neither really guarded me throughout the game.

DP: What you're saying is they can't guard you?
TM: Any given night, you can't guard a scorer if he's on.

DP: Who do you look forward to guarding you?
TM: A guy on my team- Ron Artest. It's so fun and competitive to play him.

DP: Were you surprised with Artest's year? is he crazy?
TM: No, we talked before the year he's past all that old stuff. He's not crazy. Ron is funny. I love his antics.

DP: Do you feel sorry for Blake Griffin going to the Clippers?
TM: hahaha. I was talking about this with my boy about how the Clippers got another number one pick that'll be gone in a couple of years. No but really it's a great opportunity for him to be picked first.

DP: what's the team you don't want to go to as an NBA player?
TM: As a player if you are truly excited about it it really shouldn't matter. If you're the number one pick obviously they believe in your ability. Believe you can change the franchise.

DP: Media tougher on Clemens or you?
TM: haha. I'd have to say me. At least this year.

DP: Are you rooting for olrando?
TM: Not at all, are you serious! I don't give a damn who wins, my team is not playing. I'm not rooting for nobody. I don't care if its Denver and Orlanod or Kobe/Lebron.

...Jokes about Tracy's draft night outfit in '97....talking about a documentary Tracy is working on...

DP: Why not ask Cuban for help? You could play for Dallas?
TM: oh man come on. I don't even want to talk about what he did this year in the playoffs.

DP: I can pencil you in for opening day then?
TM: I should be ready to go (opening day).

    /end interview
    ========================

Sorry I missed a couple bits early in the interview.

I bolded a couple of funny, potentially ironic parts. I wonder if T-mac would laugh at playing for the Clippers if he were traded there? He also made a huge point that he doesn't care who wins the title...Dan didn't ask him who he thought would win, but Tracy definitely seems to know he made a mistake picking the Lakers earlier in the playoffs.

I found it funny that not a few minutes after saying it would be okay to play for any NBA and try to turn the situation around, he immediately shot down the idea of playing form Marc Cuban in Dallas.

I know, neither did Jordan...superstars rarely do because of foul trouble.

I'm not saying it's fair...it just seems that's the way the voters think.

Looks like Dan Patrick is still the best interviewer in the sports radio universe.

Dream guarded Ewing in the finals and Robinson when he was an all star. There were some games that Karl Malone started going off and they put Dream on him to slow him down. I remember Pat Riley had Oakley and Mason guard Dream to keep Ewing out of foul trouble.

Mcgrady sounded well coached. I am surprised Patrick didnt bring up the radio interview in Atlanta. I guess that was a pre condition of McGrady coming on today's show.

I am excited and optimistic about what I heard. If Mcgrady is ready to go by Opening Night, it is on.

I still believe that Rockets are a better team with him than without him.

i think the ****in NBA experts would say for those stars can get the most score ,they needn't do anything in defending, but they've just done it well, offensive is the most effective way in defence.  :(
