Unless Grossman can play his way to the position, it will be Orlovsky and I am fine with that because of the two he is the one that might surprise you and be good.
after seeing him in 1 preseason game, he made me want to vomit, he was ****ing terrible. Neither of these guys is going to be able to step in and give them a shot to win games like sage did.
You've got that backwards, it's Suckasaurus Rex who's out. They just signed Alex Brink to replace him. Grossman is done. Once he recovers they'll likely release him.
I take Dan O...but, Im very skeptical after seeing his release and arm strength on Saturday. It was raining, yes, but it was also raining for Thigpen. He also threw a couple balls in risky territories and that has nothing to do with rain, rather, it shows poorly on his lack of awareness. Next week is a new week, hope he can improve.
i think i'm gonna go out on a limb and say that Dan O is a legitimate backup.. and that if Schaub ever has to miss time this season (at least 2nd half of the season after he knows the team better), Orlovsky will exceed the expectations that are being shown in this thread. Not sure of the best metric to use for a prediction other than "will be above-average backup"
Maybe this will put the skepticism about Dan's arm to rest? http://www.houstontexans.com/news/Story.asp?story_id=5470
OH whew. He threw 2 50 yard bombs in practice. I'm still convinced it was a mistake for them to put money into this joker and expect him to perform well if Schaub goes down.
I know, I know...but people were overreacting to a few throws, in the rain, some of which might have been intended to be touch passes. I think if he can complete a 50 yard bomb he can throw a shorter pass with velocity. And again, he's only making an average of 3 million a year- I just looked and that's pretty similar to what guys like Jon Kitna and Billy Volek make. He's very similar to when they brought Sage in the first time, except more starting experience...I think he has the potential to be better than all three of the guys previously mentioned. I also don't think the offense will fall apart if Orlovsky has to play...but put a wildcard like Grossman in there and you just don't know.
I'm confident that we would survive with Dan O if he had to take the reins for a few games as well. The rest of the offense is no stranger to adjusting to QB changes. Orlovsky won't be dead weight, and a running game that is now more than competent and a heavy duty receiving corps should be enough to keep an average QB afloat. He's not a loose cannon like Grossman which is as damaging on the sidelines as much as on the field.
He's not Sage. He's Alex. What does that have to do with anything? [/shakespeare-elizabethan-english joke]
