How can everyone bash Langhi? HE NEVER PLAYS!!! Even when we're down by twenty he doesn't see that much action. From what I've seen excluding tonight he's no worse than Morris, but Morris has gotten starts and many more minutes over DL and Dan has been here 2 years! Oscar too. Everyone thought he might be a rookie sleeper then all of a sudden his minutes are gone. I rarely bash Rudy, but I don't understand his thinking.
Enjoy langhi while ya can lol Rudy is showcasing him for other teams to pick him up Langhi and Collier are not in the Rockets future. Sorry but a 17 point night don't impress me this guy has little skills as a pro player regardless of his Rocky mountain review playing time. Anyone who has talked with langhi will tell you the boy don't like being a Rocket.
One game != anything see Kelvin Cato preseason performance Nice night for DL, but don't be blinded into thinking he's all of the sudden the answer. Oscar Torres had some great games there too. Ditto for TMo. DL has one nice game and all the sudden everyone is ready to put him in the hall of fame!!
in lue of all of this negative DL energy, lets start it up again, plz feel free to join w/ a DL *clap clap* DL or join me in sayin: D to the freakin L baby!
My thoughts exactly... I was at the Phoenix game the other night... DL started there, too, played the same minutes, jacked up more shots, yet the only thing he seemed to be able to hit was the opposite side of the rim... Nice game, Langhi, but I'm not sold on you, yet... x34
I still don't thikn Langhi has a future with the Rox, and will not have a very distinguished career in the NBA... However I would like to see Langhi start the rest of the games this season and show us if this was just a fluke. Even if it isn't (although it still could be just a string of lucky games), I doubt Langhi's gonna want to stay with the Rox...... which will be sad? Will we have lost a star player for the future?? Not at all, he may become an average player but he'll never be at the star, much less, superstar level. Langhi's gotta go! Besides, we have a glut of talented forwards already.
What was Dan playing? The 3? Count me in among the people who want to see Dan have a chance to start for the rest of the season. If he shows he can play the 3, maybe we can take a flier on Amare then.
I may be in the minority, but I think if or when Langhi leaves, he'll come back and bite the Rockets in the a$$. Its something to be said of a move shooter. I'm not placing him in Rice's class, but move shooters are the guys that catch and shoot after movement, not just waiting for kickouts. Reggie Miller is one,a young Glen Rice, Dale Ellis in his prime was another. Most people call them rhythm shooters which is what i think langhi is. Its no coincidence that Glen struggled last yr with the knicks and this yr with the rox. For so many yrs he was used to coming off screens and catching the ball in a groove getting elevation or useing the pump fake to get in closer. For the past 2 yrs he's been a standstill shooter and thus his % has been on the decline since. I think Langhi is the same way. I saw him play at Vandy and I thought the Rockets were getting an atheletic groove shooter. The way the offense is structured, he and Glen and whomever elsejust stands and wait till all the dribbling is done out front, receive the ball with no time for pump fakes or triple threats, thus ending in low %. I would have hpoed going into this season Langhi or Morris would have battled and tested Williams for the starting 3 spot to see wht we rally had in the two, but all that was screwed up when Rudy's past obsession with glen came into play. Now it looks like we'll have to either draft or trade for that position.
Lee, As a Vandy alum I also followed him closely and totally agree with you. I think his talents are being wasted in Rudys' system. As a matter of fact, I think a lot of other player's talents are/would be wasted in Rudy's system. Too many iso's where the other four simply stand beyond the arc and watch one player dribble, and then dribble some more....and then jack up a 21 footer with 2 seconds left Langhi is not a stand still 3 point shooter, nor should EG etc. become one. Excuse me for being ignorant and repetitive, but I STILL don't understand our offensive scheme Dallas Rocket
Good point about the system, LEE. I said that earlier and I cautioned folks that Lewis and Odom will also struggle if the system is not changed or modified. One game does not make a star but it reinforces some of the things that we already knew about DL. When KT talked about minutes being the biggest factor he is right. A player has to have a real sturdy confidence to withstand the lack of playing time. I trust that DL and the team find a way to build upon this. His performance further emphasizes my point that the Rockets needs are at the 5 and not the 3. If DL is #5 on our SF depth chart, then I would say we would be alright at the 3. I am one of those who believe that if DL had gotten the minutes like KT, he would be on his way to being another Eddie Robinson, Nailon and Wally.
I am in total agreement with you guys. Langhi can play, but the Rockets system stinks. I have always been a loyal Rudy supporter, but this year and this brand of basketball has me seriously wondering about his abilities as an Xs and Os guy. He knows how to exploit a mismatch, but we need something more structured for the young kids. The triangle or the motion offense, something of that nature, because the one man show style of offense is just boring and not EVER going to win anything in the NBA. DaDakota
This is the same Dan Langhi who's shooting 38% for the season, right? Who got extended minutes in the last two games and responded with a combined 3 for 13? Just checking. By the by, the motion offense doesn't win championships. Exploiting mis-matches is the name of the game in playoff basketball. FYI. The games we've lost have been due to an inability of the players to play fundamental basketball, hit the open man, run a competent fast break, and commit to defense. This "get riddy ruddy" stuff was funny back when LHutz did it, but it's getting a little tired.
I agree. I prefer to give Rudy the benefit of the doubt because there were moments during the season when most of the players were available that the quality of play on both sides of the ball was pretty good.
i never said he was the second coming, I just said albeit its a moot point now, that we should have given him and Morris the chance to play instead of trading for Rice. We all know mismatches is what give you wins, but where do we have one? Some nights its Steve, some its Cat but its not like when 50% of the time we have mismatches at the 1 or 2 as eveident by some of the thrashings some people have laid on our backcourt. The key is getting players in good scoring position and getting good high quality looks if possible. Having 1 player with the ball dribbling and the other 4 standing around the arc isn't good offense. Now matter how someone brings back the theory that we won using need to look no further than number 34. If Dream wasn't doubled, he scored plain and simple and sometimes when he was doubled he still scored. Right now we don't have anyone who can get a high quality shot everytime down the floor if their not doubled. I'm not by any means saying we should give Langhi a fat contract, I'm just saying it benefits him and other players such as Rice by using a stack offense. For those who don't know, that the 4 & 5 on the blocks while the 2 & 3 hide. When the 1 starts to penetrate they come off the picks ready to shoot from 15-18 ft. Now if Francis can't make a simple pass or this team can't run a play this simple, then they need to find more players. The argument about Lewis and Odom is a little different. I beleive Odom could prosper because of his ability to get his own shot from anywhere while Lewis is more of a spot up guy. In a earlier yr, Pippen would have been fine in Rudy's system just like Clyde was, but by the time Pippen came, he didn't have the ability to blow past people like he used to plus he was more of a complimentary player as opposed to Clyde being a lead the team type guy. Some games Pippen would go 4-8 or 3-9 something Clyde would never do. Clyde might go 4-14 or 3-16 but he was going to force the action unlike Pippen. Odom would enable Francis to play off the ball more while still being able to maintain position rigidity. He can rebound , push the ball on the break and finish. I could care less what kind of 3pt shooter he is, it never stopped Grant Hill from killing people. I still think Langhi could be a quality player if given the chance.
I'm not intimate with the details of what's going on in Houston, so I need some clarification. I do not understand how a player who: 1) Was SEC player of the year 2) Was obtained by trading away Najera (a contributor on a contending team) and a draft pick 3) Plays well in the summer leagues the last two years 4) And shoots well and provides height (not size, we all know that DL is on the thin side) does not get much playing time! I tend to think if the guy got some regular minutes he could be a contributor for that team, or at least for another one that will give him some consistent non-garbage time. You can't judge a guy's abilites on 3-13 shooting. Regular players shoot like crap like that all the time.
Agreed! To be fair to the coaching staff, they have had a very unstable season. I believe going into training camp he was projected to be a member of the rotation. In fact, at one point during the summer they talked about him as a backup to Mobes. Then comes OT who was not better that DL in the summer leagues. DL got injured unfortunately and never got a chance after that. The staff had to work with EG, Tmo, OT which is a major load. DL is really a victim of bad timing. In addition he does not seem to have the kind of confidence to rise above the negatives of not getting playing time. At times also, I thought he gave up during the season and was down on himself.
