Been keeping track of the box scores over the summer. Seems like Langhi has been doing decently. 25 points today on 9-14 shooting. http://www.proexposure.com/stories/0710a.cfm A Dan Langhi / Bostjan Nachbar one on one game would be interesting. Also, Matt Frieje had a good game for the Heat. He may end up being a decent 2nd round pick. I remember he was pretty good in college.
I've been bitten before.... I onced belived that Langhi doing well in the Summer league, would mean that he could do well in the NBA. I didn't happen. I take the Summer Leagues with a gain of salt.
Dan Langhi is king of summer ball. He is probably the greatest summer baller ever. Doesnt change the fact that he sucks when the season starts.
If Dan Langhi plays well in summer ball but still sucks, and Boki Nachbar plays poorly in summer ball, then what does that mean?
lol...forget about him. Nice to hear about him or any other former or current Rocket though. Najera! I hate Najera.
we should be lucky enough to get Najera for us...you may not like him, but the guy hustles his ass off and is pretty tough in the paint. not a bad guy to have coming off the bench. but that is old history..we aint getting him.
I'm actually interested to see Adrian Griffin at 100%. We'll need a defensive stopper some nights and I hear he can lock it down. When does Najera become a free agent and get overpaid grotesquely?
Najera resigned with Dallas for 6/24mil in 2002 with a player opt in 2007. I havent seen AG play before the little time he played here...so I have my doubts on how good he is defensively...but it would be nice if he could show a little something this year...but I fully expect him to be behind TM,JJ,Boki and in front of Pike(unless he can find the damn bottom of the net this year)
according to some here...cause RudyT loves tall whiteboy shooting specialists....a real shame that AirLAnghi could never shoot his way out of a wet paper bag...and was slow to boot. oh well....you know that they say about hindsight.
Langhi has never gotten the chance to play and get his confidence up at the NBA level. I think he could have Craig Ehlo like success if he gets some significant PT. Just got to get him in the right situation where he can feed off of better players. Actually Dan would fit great on today's Rocket team...where he could be a spot shooter instead of having to handle the ball. DD
Has it already been 3 years since we had constant threads extolling this myth? Langhi came from a system (Vanderbilt) where the ball was in his hands constantly and he took all the shots. He consequently never learned even the most basic of basketball systems - setting picks and screens, spacing the floor, catching and shooting. When he was with the Rockets, it was clearly obvious that he had to have the ball in his hands in order to to be effective. The few times he got on the floor, he got in the way of other players. In one game, he essentially cut off Steve because he wasn't spaced properly. And when someone kicked the ball out to him, his shot was terrible. Finally, nobody should confuse his skills as NBA-caliber. It may be easy to cross-over Harold Arceneaux (who never made it to the NBA, despite his phenomenal performances for Weber State) but NBA players are quicker and bigger. Langhi thus didn't deserve to have the ball in his hands. Langhi thrives in the Summer Leagues because he doesn't face good defense and doesn't have to participate in any kind of organized offense. Consequently, his weaknesses (subpar handles, lack of quickness, inability to play in a system) aren't exposed. Langhi simply did not have NBA talent or smarts. Considering that you often (and correctly) deride SF3 and Cat for their lack of smarts, I'm somewhat surprised you didn't observe the same in Langhi.
I never said Langhi was smart.....just that I think he can succeed in a system whereas he is not the player that is the focus...in fact he would need to be the 4th or 5th option. The problem on the Rocks was that the whole team was comprised of awful team players, and none of them passed the ball. When Langhi got in he was often ignored, and then he forced it when he did get the ball. In no way am I saying Langhi is great, or smart, just that I think in the right system he is an NBA player. DD
=) lemme just say this so i wont rant on into how langhis amazing and should be given a chance....u put that guy on a team oriented squad, ie the pistons....he'd add much needed scoring boost with that ridiculously sweet jumper....hopefully rudy t picks him up in LA...he'll get major pub in lala land....but ill still be one happy mofo if i ever see boki/DL suit up together for the 2004 Houston Rockets.....the possibilities....
Hmmm... if Langhi's so great, why haven't any of the FOUR teams he's played for figured that out yet? It may be just a matter of the wrong system, but he's working in his 5th NBA system so far and has never gotten more than scrub minutes. His career .289 3PT% is nothing to brag about for someone rumored to have a sweet outside shot. I think there's a system in which he could really excel: an NBDL system, or maybe a CBA system.
