If the Rockets sign Dampier, does that mean I have to root for Erick Dampier? Ugh.

Assuming this pans out, I'm very happy. Or at least "happy."

3 back-to-backs in Nov, so he can help a lot, especially when we need more of a presence on defense and the glass instead of Miller's passing and offense. Dampier + Hayes would almost make up for the defensive liability of Brooks-Martin-Chase.

We'd be bursting at the seams with rotation players. Trade almost has to happen, though it's ten times tougher to make a multiplayer move midseason, because of roster limitations.

Dirk Nowitzki for Jared Jefferies and Shane Battier.

    Guess you'd say no too?

Now we know why Chuck Hayes got 40 minutes the other night - part of the sales pitch to Damp that he would get PT.

Oh, hell yes! I am not a Dampier fan, but I don't think we could have hoped for any better help than him as a center who can clog the paint and challenge shots at the rim.

Dampier has surprisingly been one of the keys to the Mavericks’ success over the past few years. Most people think he’s grossly overpaid, but his contract may not be as bad as some people think. Dallas is obviously not sold on him, as evidenced by them resigning Desagana Diop. Statistically, Dampier ranks well above average on both offense and defense. On both ends, his general purpose is to grab rebounds and take up space near the basket, and he does both of those things very well. Last season, he ranked 15th in the league in Composite Score. He’s also not just a product of the Mavericks’ system. He played extremely well in his last season with Golden State. He’s a bit old, but he’s been a key player for Dallas and will be for Houston too.

I have never particularly liked Dampier...less because of his Dallas ties and more because he can sometimes appear apathetic, as if he's not doing as much as he can with the tools he has. His contract year production clearly supports this.

But, if you're going to give me an apathetic player, give me one who is 7 feet tall, has length, blocks shots, shoots at a ridiculously high percentage at the rim, and rebounds at an impressive rate anyway.

If/When Yao is out, we could do a whole hell of a lot worse than a Miller/Dampier/Hayes/Hill center rotation.

It does speak volumes about what you are getting.

I do think that Morey is either:
    1) Trying to free up a roster spot by trading a little used player for a pick (maybe a 2 for 1)
    or
    2) He's not sure that he'd want a player that avoids work and chemistry that much.

I'm on the fence on this one but it might be worth the risk to have a 3rd true center given Yao limitations.

Call me irrational, but I would not cheer for the Rockets if Dirk was on the team.

I hate everything about the Mavericks, especially anyone on the 04-05 team. I travelled back and forth between Houston and Dallas for every game of that series. I learned to hate Dallas and hate in general with that miserable experience.

Finally we have someone that actually can block shot beside Yao. And it makes sense to release Ish Smith because Lowry is coming back and we can also play Courtney LEE as the PG. We need interior size and it's more important to help out rebounding and blocking shots. Miller giving up layups too easy.

I get it and i don't get it. We want veteran help, but never played our young guys. If both Hill and Patterson played well in pre-season, what gives?

If Ish goes to Vipes then Ish is a FREE AGENT and the Rox have NO3rd pg. JT can't find the court, tho he does appear to possess talent.

i have not been impressed by ish. i think he had a few "hot" preseason games and parlayed that into a roster spot. Kelvin Cato is very proud.

he can't run the offense. has not shot. plays no d.

but he can get the highlight assist. in ways, he's the point guard version of stromile swift, just replace the one a game dunk with the one a game assist.

Please don't let it actually be confirmed! I've live in Dallas and have had to look at his stupid mug for way too long!

from what I saw I have been very disappointed by Miller's defense, I understand he is old and not known for his defense but some of what I saw against Gasol either seemed like he was afraid to pick up fouls or he was just lazy

Now at least we feel good about our rebounding situation. Short Hayes and non-athletic Scola can get overwelm with size when it comes to intense pressured games....but having Dampier can help ensure that crucial rebound that we need.

I can even see Yao and Dampier on the court at the same time. Then Miller and Scola or Scola and Hayes...we're very flexable.
