I very much want to do a happy dance, but still cannot believe it is true.
Nothing was said during the game?
I think the thought of Damp coming here with trade/s messed with the players. Perhaps last night they had an inkling he was not coming - no trades? - and it made a difference. Almost like last night and tonight they played to prove he was not needed (or wanted). And against SA and Minn - it was like they were playing for each other - like they did not want any one of their teammates traded.

Maybe the staff has seen enough to finally believe in Hill? The man's athleticism is undeniable, he's quicker than anyone at center besides Amare or Dwight.

Three words for why Jermaine Taylor is still a Rocket and Erick Dampier is not:

    Aaron. Brooks. Injury.

Maybe, but I think the decision might have happened before that anyway.

They don't need another big, and why pay someone $2 million a year which costs the team $4 million when you are not even sure you need them.

I think this was Morey thinking we might need an asset and then deciding that we have options that might hold the fort in Hill and Hayes and Miller.....and of course Yao.

Dampier just didn't fit on this team.....and I think the identity issue made that abundantly clear.

And I doubt that they got any legitimate offers for JT, because other teams knew they wanted to jettison him to make room which cut any leverage they might have had.

What will be interesting is whether they can call up that guy from the Vipers....but I can't remember if we can do 10 day contracts yet? For some reason January sticks in my craw about that.

    Any help Bima?

Guess Dampier didn't want to come to an 0-5 team.

Yeah, you're probably right. I think Jordan's good play of late (along with Lowry's back spasms) may have shifted the decision making on that front.

Ten-day contracts cannot be signed until January 5.

(Partially/non-guaranteed) Contracts become fully guaranteed starting January 10, meaning that a player must be waived by January 8 in order to clear waivers before the deadline.

Of course, players signed to 10-day contracts count towards the 15-man roster.

Right now, contracts do not need to be guaranteed, so you could sign a guy and cut him whenever you want, and he'd only make the pro-rated minimum for the time he was on the roster, making 10-days completely useless. After January 10th, all contracts must be guaranteed for the remainder of the season.

Thing about 10-days is that they still require a roster spot; so barring a trade, the Rockets would still need to cut a player. There is sadly a better than average chance that the Rockets could get a hardship exception at some point, considering the player histories, which would allow them an extra temporary slot.

    Thanks HiMana.

I did not know we could sign one to a non guaranteed deal and cut them.

However, we do not have a roster spot, so someone would have to go...probably Taylor.

But with Lowry and AB out we are really hurting at PG.

To me this says Hill has gone from a trade asset to a long term piece.

Also, thank god I dont have to root for Dampier.

great! i think this move could be crucial. dampier brings size, rebounds, defense, and just this certain presence. i don't see how the rockets could cut ismael smith at this point, however. i would definitely cut jeffries at this point over smith.

    Thank heaven!

It would have been a dumb move given we already have a log jam of potential big men and Erica Dumpier would probably have been less helpful then present day Shaq was to the Cavs.

If signing dampier is crucial to our season then we should just forfeit the season.
