I'd never dish on the the Shaq. He'd squash me. Perhaps I should have said he is blessed with manos de piedra because I swear I just spent the past 4 years watching rebound after rebound bounce from his hands. BTW, that 36 minutes has to encompasses more than one game because Dampier's strategy at the Mavericks was to start, pick up two quick fouls so he could go back to the bench and proceed to watch the game in comfort. ;)

    It Should be

PF: Scola, Hill, Hayes, Jefferies, Pat (D-League)
    C:Yao(Dampier on b2b's) Miller, Dampier

-Bringing Hill and Miller first off the bench seems to make the most potent combination with Budinger and Lowry to me. Dampier can start on Back to backs to keep Miller with the 2nd unit.

You think Dampier would start over Yao?

I assume Dampier will share second-string duties with Miller, and he'll probably start when Yao misses games.

I could see us using Dampier towards the end of games when Yao has exceeded his limit and we're trying to use a more defense-oriented lineup.

Dampier is not being put over Yao in the rotation he is being used as a option as insurance for Yao.

If they're looking for some stability Dampier could start.

They won't do it but I am with you. Let Yao come off the bench and take advantage of the penalty, 2nd units...etc.

So when Yao plays Dampier is behind Yao and Miller but when Yao sits out Dampier starts in front of Miller? That's what I was thinking too.

All joking aside, yes: folks are looking at his size and blocked shots stats and think this is a steal. It is but it will be Damp (he likes to be called Damp BTW) who will be stealing (yet) another NBA owner's money. I live in Dallas and I have watched him for years and he is pathetic and I'm trying to be kind here because so many folks are actually excited about this pickup. He has the size and strength of a bonafide big man but is passive, uninterested and unmotivated to excel. Yet another stiff collecting an NBA paycheck. I know I was never very high on Jordan Hill but trust me: Hill is MUCH better than Damp because at least he's out there trying.

It looks excessive to me to have all 6 of Yao, Dampier, Miller, Scola, Hill, and Jefferies. Is Yao getting traded? Is this a trick/insurance to bargain for a better deal when Yao gets resigned next year?

If Dampier can do something for us in certain stretches of the game that would help the Rockets a lot. Dampier doesn't need to be Olajuwon for us but if he can make a impact similiar to what Mutombo gave us then it's great! Just be a good role player in important stretches of the game.

Why did heat take a pass on him? 2mil per makes you wonder if there is something wrong w/ him.

I am going to go with his 10 year + history in the league to base my conclusions on. For what he can bring with his size a 1 year deal worth 2 million is a great price imo.

remember Dampier had a non-guaranteed contract so the 11 million or so he was slated to receive this year he only ended up getting like 2 million of it. Clearly he wanted to make as much money as he can while being able to play a decent role.

It seemed like 2 million was his going rate...Miami probably couldnt afford that and may have felt that he should have accepted the vet min from them considering that Miami is now the "it" place to be.

I am going to guess that Miami probably demanded he accept the min (i think they may have their LLE still) and Dampier probably got upset that Miami knowing that they could offer 2mil kept offering the vet min.

Wow he is black, can play defense and jump more than 12 inches! He'll take an out of shape Dampier now.
