Dampier seems inclined to accept minimum offer from Miami.

We'll have to see. But Dampier would be a solid signing. Remember people said Mutumbo was washed up when he came here too. He ended up proving everybody wrong. So we'll see about Dampier

Of course Dampier isn't coming here. He's no different then Bosh let's go jump on another players back and win a championship. Players like that don't want to play for Houston... only strong minded athletes play for the Rockets. He's simply not one.

Wasn't he the self-proclaimed best center in the league? And to think we could have had him with Yao........I am heart-broken

I don't know if you paid much attention to the entire last season but the wag is not the guy I ever want protecting the paint again. Suuuure he is a great defender, superb even. However he is NOT a center. There is a reason he was the ONLY 6'6" center in the NBA. That reason is because David Anderson sucked it hardcore.

False. Chuck Hayes started at center in the 2009 NBA playoffs and in the first half of the 2009-10 season despite the Rockets' also having both Luis Scola (6-9) and Carl Landry (6-9). Sure, he's undersized as hell. But he is capable of playing center. Even if David Andersen played well last year, Chuck would have still gotten 15-20 mpg at center.

Oh, and DeJuan Blair (6-6, on a good day) also plays some center for San Antonio.

While I admire Chuck for the effort he puts out, if Chuck plays any substantial time at center again next year I would be VEEERRRRYYYYY worried.

SUBSTANTIAL time? Yes, I agree. But I fully expect Chuck to see SOME time at the center position for the Rockets next season, and not just a nominal amount of minutes. Heck, in certain matchups, Chuck Hayes might actually be the Rockets' BEST option at center!

But yeah. I'd like to see Yao and Brad Miller get the lion's share of the minutes there. Depending on matchups, let Chuck and Jordan Hill fight for the remaining minutes.

barring a major injury, i dont forsee Chuck playing anymore than about 8 mpg , if that, at the 5
    i figure Yao 20-24
    Miller 14-16
    chuck whatever is left

He starts at Miami, on a team likely to make the finals, he'll be a 3rd string here at best.

Just because he is "capable". Does not mean we should have him anchor the center position ever again when we have more options available now. There's no doubt he is a great defender, however in a world dominated by centers above 6'6" chuck is not always the best option.

    Yes Blair plays "some" center

If teams play small ball against us, do you prefer Brad Miller or Chuck Hayes on the floor? Its not like Miller is a beastly rebounder or rim protector.

Who said anything about having Hayes "anchor the center position" or that he was "always the best option"?

Dude, you said (and I quote):

"the wag is not the guy I ever want protecting the paint again"

    AND

"he was the ONLY 6'6" center in the NBA"

I disagreed/refuted both points. Nothing more. Nothing less.

There is quite a bit of middle-ground between having Chuck Hayes play the vast majority of the Rockets' center position minutes and having Chuck Hayes play SOME minutes at center to maximize the team's ability to counteract certain matchups.
