Dallas, I think, is screwed. They won't mesh well IMO.

They don't have ONE really solid PG, Finley is getting old, and there will be a lot of whining.

Right now, they need to cut down on their squad, and either turn into a post team, or a running team. They're in between right now, and you can't be succesful like that.

If they don't get Kidd or Carter, they're screwed.

    Dampier
    Nowitzki
    Howard
    Finley
    Daniels

That team can run and play defense. All they need is to fix their bench, or acquire a star player.

As of now, I think they fight for 7th seed.

Vince is no longer desirous of playing in Toronto.

And Cubes likes 'stars', but this star would be a redundancy in Dallas.

You know, as the years go on and on, it becomes more and more obvious that Cuban runs this team like his own personal, real-life fantasy team. All these trades every season, bringing big contracts and big names seemingly with no real regard given to chemistry and overall team philosophy. Everyone lauds the guy as a good GM because he is willing to fork over lots of money, but he wasn't willing to open his wallet for Nash. Now he gives THIS contract to Dampier? Methinks this is his way of making up for letting Nash go...bad move Mark. It's going to bite your ass in the end.

I'm not as critical of this signing as most people here. Sure, Dampier doesn't deserve anything close to $73 mil. But it's obvious that Dallas simply doesn't have the size to compete seriously for a title. Dampier might not the answer, but he was the best they can get. True centers these days are just too rare. Can you name one center better than Dampier the Mavs has any chance of getting in the near future? Yao, Shaq, Miller, J. O'Neal, and Big Ben are all as untouchable as a player can get. Z probably isn't a great fit with the Mavs as he needs the ball on offense to be effective. So who else is out there?

Basically, Dampier + Daniels > Nash + the stiffs they force upon the center position.

More disturbing is the fact that the Mavs have way too many mid-level scorers. I just can't see them all share the ball well with each other. They better try to go for a 2 for 1 or 3 for 1 deal to get a superstar. Otherwise, there is going to be chemistry problems.

Players around the league have to know that you may have a nice terry cloth robe with your name on it and a plasma screen tv at your locker when you go to Dallas, but you have to watch your back. Cuban is just as liable to ship you out to the dregs of the league if something better comes along.

If Dallas cuts T. Best and S. Logan and Scott Williams and E. Eshmeyer, would we pick any of them up?

They have too many players right now. I'm just guessing who gets cut.

They're not looking for different players. That much is obvious by their team which lacks post players. When your best post player is Erick Dampier, you've got a situation.

Carter would fit in well with Finley, Nowitzki and whoever plays PG for them. They'd basically shoot like crazy.

Personally, I think they can net Marion:

    Henderson/Josh Howard/Phoenix's choice of a C for Marion.

I hope they enter the season without a trade, I'd love it. But that package I mentioned can be extremely enticing to MANY teams.

the mavs are loaded with backup centers, either booth or bradley will fill our hole. Bradley probably more likely since booth just got traded to the mavs. I even think bradley's a better fit for us versus deke since he probably can log in more min than mutumbo and just as effective defensively.

the mavs might of lost nash, but terry is no chump change. Who says he's not capable of adapting to the point guard role? Terry was suppose to be the pg for the hawks, but since nobody else could score, he had to pick up the scoring slack. Dont forget the mavs also have the talented devin harris, he can possibly be their pg of the future. As for damp, i expect the mavs will shop him around after 3 or 4 years, and will have a hard time doing so because of his fat contract. He might produce now and in the immediate future, but look for his game to decline after a couple of years, thus becoming another overpaid player.

I know this thread is old but he said would effect THEIR teams negatively not effect the Mavs negatively.
