2 year 5 mil? good deal for a solid PG. If either Lue or Ward is our staring PG coming into Nov., I'll officially call CD inept and Les cheap ***. It's not like D.Jones and M.James demanding a lot of money.
He only signed a 2 yr contract for 5 mill??? What the _____ are the Rockets thinking?? Did the wholesale price of veggie dogs shoot through the roof?
i can't believe we did not sign him. please tell me offered and he rejected. that's a good deal. at this point he seems like a significant upgrade from what we have as point guards right now.
What do you mean by significant upgrade!? Check the stats between Lue and Jones... Wonder why Jones couldn't even stay on one team- even the BUCKS replaced him with Mike James!!! Lue is at least an effort guy, Jones is painfully frivolous!! ok, exagerration aside, Lue has chemistry with TMac, and he's serviceable enough to be our PG for one year before we can see what kind of a PG TMac+Yao really need. Let's just hope for AD or other trades for now.
Antonio Daniels (trade), Kenny Anderson, Bobby Sura, Lindsey Hunter, Brevin Knight, Darrick Martin, Shammond Williams, last and definitely least..Ward. Sign Keon and Sura each for half of the MLE and let's roll with it.
It is official: http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sports/9332275.htm D. Jones signs 2-year deal with Miami The Heat solidified its backcourt by signing unrestricted free agent Damon Jones, but with little money left, available frontcourt options are scarce. BY STEPHEN F. HOLDER sholder@herald.com With its frontcourt depth still lacking, the Heat on Thursday chose to solidify its backcourt with the signing of unrestricted free agent Damon Jones, the player's agent and league sources confirmed Thursday. The Heat has scheduled a news conference for today where it is expected to introduce Jones, who becomes the third point guard on the roster and will compete with local standout Keyon Dooling for the backup job to starter Dwyane Wade. Jones comes to the Heat after one season in Milwaukee, where he had his most productive year as a pro, playing mostly as a backup to T.J. Ford. When Ford went down with a spinal cord injury and missed the final third of the season, Jones became the starter. Miami will be Jones' ninth NBA team. Jones received a guaranteed two-year deal, with the remaining $2.5 million from Miami's midlevel cap exception covering the first year's salary. Jones' agent, Mark Termini, said Jones will hold a player option for the second year. The 6-3 Jones, 27, looked less like a journeyman last season, averaging seven points and 5.8 assists, despite playing just 24.6 minutes per-game. Jones' assist-to-turnover ratio -- 4.64 to 1 -- ranked second in the league. ''Damon is an up-and-coming player, and Miami saw that,'' Termini said. The $2.5 million was the Heat's best remaining asset in free agency. Now, Miami's $1.6 million exception is the only substantial money left to offer. That likely won't be enough to land an impact small forward or power forward such as Cleveland free agent Eric Williams, who has been negotiating with the Heat and Nets. The Heat lost out on free agent forwards Rodney Rogers and Robert Horry when they signed with other teams, and it might now have to look to the next tier.
Jones at 2.5M per is a good deal. Only 2 years too. That is a quality signing by the Heat. If the Rockets werent willing to go 2 years 5m, then perhaps they have something else lined up. Clearly they couldn't expect Jones to go for any LOWER than that. I mean 5M for 2 yeras isnt much of a committment. This signing really makes me think the Rockets have some sort of plan in place to do something.
I don't think the Rox were after Jones (remember they cut him a few years back), I think the Sonics were after him though - and the Rockets were hoping to get Daniels after the Sonics signed Jones. I was talking to a buddy in Atl who was not a rocket fan, and he said the same thing CD has been saying about these FA signings: What the rockets have is as good or better (for the money) then what is out there and what they are going for... so an objective fan has the same assessment. Great signing by the Heat - with the extra point guard, they can move Wade to the 2 for stints and run the big center - slashing 2 guard offensive
Didn't someone say before like once we trade Steve we can get a point Guard EASY! wow i dont know wheres the point guard at
I think the Rockets think the same way I think: Jones was never able to establish himself on a halfcourt team, and his ONLY semi-succesful season was on a running team. I would've like James, and still prefer Daniels.
who exactly do you have in mind ? Fisher at 19 years 150 million Skip to my Lou at 15 years 222 million Damon "cut by the Rox but had 3 good months on a bad team" jones ???
expect an overly excited thread saying, "Dwayne Wade Available!" now that Jones has signed to be the 3rd pg on the Heat.
they must have something going on....They must keep a good seal because I have heard no leaks. Only puzzles from Doc. I hope we are doing our homework.
Well, he did say it would be someone unexpected and that he never heard anything about the proposed Daniels trade, so maybe there is something going on afterall.
