Exactly how I feel. I can't tell you how many times I was at juncture in on Partypoker's sit and go, and I folded with a hand similiar to that. Then I get no good hand for the next couple of rounds as the blind gets bigger and next thing you know, I was at the point where I had to go all in with a 9/7 suited because the big blind was coming around at it's the same size as my stack
that's pretty much exactly what i was thinking. i mean. i knew if i wanted to finish high, i had to make a move soon. this presented me with the best opportunity i had for a long time. i took it. i lost. if i had won, i for sure would have slowed down and waited to make another move until i was in the money or had an unbelievable hand AFTER the flop. but yeh, i never got this opportunity. i'm now planning my second candian poker tour event, i'm a college student - so money can be tough to come by, but i'm going home and gonna make a few hundred on a weekend which will pay off the $300 + 25 tournament next month.
Party poker or internet poker is not at all like a real tournament. No reading people, no getting a feel for the table..... Also, everyone at that table could be sitting around one big conference table sharing your money. DD
I like to fold 92.7 % of the time. I feel that gives me the best chance at a full table. I play very conservatively. And I try to get labeled as conservative as quickly as I can. This way if I'm in a hand they think I have something good and back out. I collect smaller pots but they add up fast. The only problem with this strategy is that you need a decent hand early to get into the game and stay in it. Otherwise you just keep dropping blinds.
I agree with Dakota. Online poker could be very dangerous if all the people at the table know each other. And I guarantee you, if it can be done, people are doing it. If yoo play online for fun that is ok. But I wouldn't do it for real. I'm sure 99% of it is real. But that 1% could screw you.
Agreed with your post 100 percent. A very bad call by the chip leader and he got very lucky you didn't hit. That was a moneymaker/raymer esq call! IMO that was not a bad all in semi bluff with your nut flush draw. Good solid agressive play. I'm not sure about your situation though. If your opponents are calling stations it might have been a bad play because you do not want anybody to call you in this situation.
when he called i honestly thought he had a pocket pair of K's or something, cuz i hadn't seen many big calls since i had sat down at that table. really caught me by surprise when he flipped a K of clubs and 3. he even acted like he thought he lost it when he saw me flip my cards...but he got lucky - or i never - which ever.
I not only play the cards I watch player moves that could tip me off as to what they have. Normally if a person has suited cards they never look at their cards after the community cards are displayed. If a player is considering a second option after the flop they look at their cards again, over and over. It works the same with face cards, if someone is betting on their king of hearts and the flop comes A (s), 8 (h), 5(h), an amateur will check their cards again to see if they should stay in based on the flush draw. Believe it or not I have bluffed people out of potiental winners because of a second glance at their cards.
I'll tell you right now I look at my cards twice before every bet for this exact reason. Even if I have Aces I'm looking twice everytime. I have them memorized but I always look twice anyway.
sometimes if i'm suited i check twice to make sure i'm remembering the right suit...so yeh, i usually check once after the flop - but not after the river.
I always glance at my cards regardless of what I have. There is never a time when I make a bet without looking at my cards again.
I think when you look at your cards you give your opponent another chance to read you. Then again I was one of the first guys out of a tourny this past weekend!
True, I give my opponent another chance to read me, but at the same time, I am consistent with that aspect of the game. I try and do everything exactly the same regardless of what cards I have. Damn, all this talk is getting me pumped to play again.
It would be fun to play a lot of you guys here. Poker is a blast, especially when the BS starts flying. DD
it would definately be cool. too bad i'm in vancouver. i can just see AB starin at everybody and watchin if they are gonna look at their cards or not. sircharles calculating the chances of winning while deciding what to do. DaDa calculating the risks and why not to stay in the pot. aceshigh7 never calling a thing...but betting and raising it all - to go with his saying "a bettor be, a caller never be." gutter snipe calculating the pot odds. phislammajamma folding - 92.7% of the time. arkoe checking his cards 50 times per hand - cuz he's dislexic. and the rest of you laughing at my bad luck.
I actually doubled a guy up one time thinking I had something I didn't because I didn't want to look at my hole cards.
