Then we will sign him to a 25 million dollar poison pill contract.

Didn't Livingston go on to get cut by the Wizards though? I mean if you struggle to make that Wizards roster, then maybe your NBA days are over, you know what I mean?

Let's be real here, some of these guys just aren't very good.

Any thoughts on a possible Royce White suspension for not reporting to the D-league.

Seriously, Cook was not good with the Rockets. Never had been good before either. And at 25, likely never will be good. He's basically Steve Novak except not nearly as a good shooting the 3.

I'm more surprised that the Rockets dumped his $3mil expiring contract. Makes it less likely Morey makes a blockbuster trade that requires lots of salary matching at the deadlin.

So what you're saying is that you were wrong about Livingston, and now you're realising you're wrong about Cook?

I think Aldrich is better than Cook.

But either way it's irrelevant isn't it? We're bringing in a wing player who is clearly better than Cook, and to make room for him it makes perfect sense to waive the player who he is replacing.

Whether or not Aldrich is worthy of a roster spot is another thing altogether and irrelevant to the Cook/Anderson scenario.
[as we've seen over the past few seasons, it's much much harder to find a big guy who can contribute something at the C position on an NBA court than to find a wing who is a streaky shooter]

He was cut by the wizards in order to find a better starting/back up PG, but picked up off waivers by the Cavaliers on Christmas to play 3rd string PG.

Hopefully he'll find his game again. He seems like a nice guy.

Cook was at McHale's dinner party last night doing what he does best - cooking.

Is there a waiver system in place where a team can claim him and pay the rest of that salary (instead of the Rockets), or is he immediately a free agent?

Cook is much better than Novak at everything other than shooting. Unfortunately for him, this isn't the NBDL so all we ever needed or wanted him to do was shoot 3's. The NBA is a league of stars and specialists so it's tough to get playing time unless you're great at something. If Cook could focus more defensively, I could easily see him sticking with some team.

That is unfortunate. Sucks to get cut but on New Years that is the worst.

Can New Years really be considered a holiday?

In Morey I trust. But, man, whoever you want to wave or cut or send to D-League, just don't do it on Christmas day or New Years day. It just feels too-cold-blooded. Although players are just assets to you, but they are also humans with feelings. Having some sensitivity, please. I'm sure delaying one or two days to avoid Christmas/New Years day wouldn't matter that much.

I felt bad for T-Jones to be sent to D-League again on Christmas day therefore unable to spent that special day with teammates and wearing that fancy silver uniforms ;). I felt bad for Cook today, although no doubt another team will sign him soon.

If Lin is any example, I hope T-Jones makes Jonesanity and Cook on fire later this season. :p

He'll need to start looking for jobs outside the NBA if he wants minutes.

The NFL fired coaches and GMs all on New Years Eve, Black Monday. Not sure how this is anymore cold-blooded.

or to another team who could give him a multi-year contract in the off-season. It's about staying in the league for him at this point.

Well I don't like NFL fired coaches and GMs on New Years Eve either. Just because other people are are doing the same and being cold-blooded doesn't mean you have to.

I guess if I were a boss, I wouldn't be good enough cuz I wouldn't fire people on holidays. :p

to me, cutting Cook and his $3.1M expiring contract means no big trade at the deadline to get the 2nd star
