The entire city is going to burn to the ground. Video in link: http://www.reuters.com/article/us-canada-wildfire-fortmcmurray-idUSKCN0XU2D8

[rQUOTEr]Unrelenting fire forces more evacuations in Canadian oil sands region

A massive wildfire near Fort McMurray in Alberta, Canada, that has grown to five times its initial size has spread south, forcing more evacuations on Thursday after 88,000 people fled the city in the nation's energy heartland.

The uncontrolled blaze, which has consumed swaths of the city, has shut some oil production in the area, driving up global oil prices and affecting projects and pipelines across the heavily forested region.[/rQUOTEr]

This is rather terrifying. Its been a while since a wildfire actually wiped out an entire city. Fort McMurray is going to get completely wiped out at this rate and it wont take very long. The airport, for example, is literally in the process of burning down right now.

Did they catch the arsonist? Or at least have any leads? It's unfortunate a whole town has to burn down due to criminal mischief.

Sad thing is it wasn't even a real arsonist -- it was an arborist who planted a Mexican Fire-Plant out of season.

for perspective on size. Alberta premier says they've lost 90% of homes.

not sure what this has to do with global warming (psst it was re-named "climate change" since there was some cooling, too!) other than the fact that some hippies in Berkeley are probably smugly pleased that an oil sands town burned.

forest fires aren't exactly a new thing...

back on topic, where the eff is pretty boy Trudeau on this? How could he let an entire town get burned to the ground? Did he truly deploy all of Canada's resources to prevent this? This is a huge black mark in his early tenure.

Not sure what this is supposed to mean?

What I got out of those pictures is that I'm some how supposed to draw a comparison of a catastrophic loss of 90% of homes in a city of 60,000 vs an utterly unimaginable catastrophic loss of 90% of homes in cities of multimillions of people. Or is that just showing land area? That would make more sense...

    I ask in all ignorance...sorry.

Crazy videos. Here's the last part of that video. Shows the size of the smoke / fire cloud when he makes it out.

It's pretty crazy and feel very bad for all of those who lost their homes.

The smoke has blown even here to Minnesota and we've had air quality warnings because of it.
