well, we could always start a pool on what day and hour the war begins, with tiebreakers settled by when we get our first "exclusive" video by Haroldo Rivera in some mysterious underground bunker showing us dastardly green liquid in test tubes.
I am heading out to SLC for the opening rounds, I would be dissappointed to say it mildly if they are postponed. Of course I already question exactly what we will be able to accomplish, and what repercusions (expand the number of terrorists planning to attack us) may come out of, a war with Iraq. Curious poll, I was surprised slightly over 1/3rd of those polled don't want us to go to war with Iraq. For a sports--probably high % male crowd-- that is much higher than I thought.
Calm down...the NCAA announced tonight that the games will go on regardless of what happens this weekend.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- The NCAA will not postpone the men's and women's basketball tournaments if the United States goes to war with Iraq this week, the organization's president said Tuesday. NCAA president Myles Brand said the games would go ahead as scheduled after tournament officals consulted with Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the young men and women who are in the desert and elsewhere defending our freedom," Brand said. "We are also concerned that life go on as normal. We see no reason, after consulting with Secretary Ridge, to make any alterations to our plan." The NCAA men's tournament would be the first big sports event affected by any conflict in Iraq. The first game, between North Carolina-Asheville and Texas Southern, was scheduled for Tuesday night in Dayton, Ohio. The rest of the first round begins Thursday, which would be after the 48-hour deadline President Bush set Monday night for Saddam Hussein to leave Iraq or face war. The women's tournament begins Saturday.
