I wouldn't pair CJ next to Luka. I'd rather roll with THJ and Luka and find some other piece for KP specifically in the frontcourt. THJ is the floorspacer and a better defensive minded player that has good chemistry and compliments Luka very well. He's also a good amount cheaper than CJ, although hell get a nice deal this summer likely from Dallas. but I doubt it's going to be as high as CJ's contract. That team needs a Ayton/AD type. CJ doesn't fix anything for me. He might be a better offensive player just bc hes a better all around scorer but it still isn't enough to offset everything else that he doesn't really do well

i don't even think KP makes Portland any better. Their frontcourt is charmin soft. He merely makes it worse. Nurkic definitely hasn't been doing his part as their big and I don't think he should be there anymore. They should just let him go

Blazers 'Absolutely' Will Keep Lillard, McCollum, Nurkic, Covington

During his end of the season press conference, Neil Olshey said the Portland Trail Blazers will not trade any of Damian Lillard, CJ McCollum, Jusuf Nurkic and Robert Covington.

"We've got 80 percent of our starting lineup under contract and returning absolutely,” said Olshey.

Portland's fifth starter, Norman Powell, will be a free agent this offseason.

There have been rumors that the Blazers will consider trading McCollum this offseason following their first round exit.

"We’ll continue to try and grow and build assets so if an opportunity came up where a player was on the market and available and wasn't pre-determining his destination, we can compete in terms of what assets we can convey to bring them to Portland,” added Olshey.

So they are just gonna stay a mediocre team lol

Move McCollum and Nurkic for defenders, give Lillard a chance.

I guess Blazers being eliminated from the first round will continue to happen for the foreseeable future unless new coach can magically make CJ and Dame a better defensive duo (or they play wounded teams).

lol if they're really keeping nurkic, that's just plain stupid. He's one of the main reasons they can't go anywhere

When asked if he was “still whole-heartedly on board” with the Blazers, Damian Lillard replied, “I have no comments about anything,” according to Jason Quick of The Athletic.
Quick, a respected and plugged-in Portland-based reporter, writes that the uncertainty regarding Lillard's future has created tension in-and-around the franchise. Quick also states that Dame publically calling for Portland to hire Jason Kidd as the team's new head coach "was a failed power move by Lillard’s camp but one that figures to be remembered down the road."

Chauncey Billups ‘Widely Expected’ To Be Hired As Head Coach Of Blazers

“League sources around the NBA tell The Athletic they expect Chauncey Billups to eventually become head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers.”

Who says no. CJ for Tobias Harris. (assuming PHI loses to Nets or Atl).

CJ's shooting, playmaking and perimeter play would seem to fit better with Embid, simmons, curry, green, etc

Harris gives Blazers a skilled and scoring big who is pretty much a PF version of CJ and will give Dame a better pnr partner.

Blazers can play a smaller but versatile and defensively adequate lineup of Dame, Powell (resigned), Jones, Covington, Harris. If they resign Nurkic have him start only vs teams like lakers, sixers, nuggets etc...

Interesting Idea but I think Portland says no, I think they need multiple players, they don't really get better with Harris IMO.

“Among Portland Trail Blazers top head coaching candidates: Clippers assistant Chauncey Billups, Spurs assistant Becky Hammon, Univ. of South Carolina/USA women's coach Dawn Staley, Nets assistant Mike D’Antoni and Spurs executive Brent Barry.”

They play Lillard, CJ, and Nurcic, and added Melo to the mix and then they wonder why they cant defend anyone.

Loyalty is a thing of the past. The Blazers will drop or trade you when they want, even if they have won a title because of you, and it's better to understand that now than later. If you want to stay in Portland and that makes u happy, do it. If you want to win, u may have to leave.

in combat sports, boxing/MMA, there's a term called 'Gatekeeper' it's a fighter that's good, maybe even top 10 good in his weight division, but never quite good enough to actually win a title. The guy is just there for younger fighters to get past but he always wins just enough to always be just on the edge, 2-3 fights away or so from a title shot.

That's basically the Blazers. Gatekeepers of the west. A solid challenge for some young team but every now and then they win a series just to be enough of a threat to stay in that position.

Yep. That was that was the Spurs from about 2008-2013 or whenever Leonard got good to extend their window.
Ray Allen era Bucks were another team I thought of that way.
    Mark Price Cavs too.
