A GM should get credit for a good or bad cap situation regardless.

Agreed. What happened to the days of running it up their butts?

You know you've made a lot of trades when you're Nellie's pick for GM of the year. ;)

Colangelo definitely made some great moves, however, I'm still not entirely sold on the Nash signing. It's obviously been a great move for them this year, but they've tied a lot of money up into him for a long time and he's no spring chicken. If in three years he's still worth anywhere near what they're paying him I'll be shocked. Obviously Colangelo has to be a favorite regardless though. Winning is key and they've made an unbelievable turnaround.

I think Paxson has done great this year in the draft but I'd have to look closer at the Jamal Crawford trade and what all they gained from that before I could be sold on him for this season.

Riley has definitely made great moves. Shaq has been huge for them and just like us, they've done an amazing job of filling their roster out with players that compliment Shaq and Wade well.

It's stiff competition but when I look at all the moves Dawson has made this year I'm just blown away. The McGrady deal was amazing. If you're looking at impact for this season, the Shaq trade and Nash signing MIGHT rank higher, but if you're looking at the long term the McGrady deal was the best move made by far. People had doubts about Deke but nobody is complaining now. The Ryan Bowen signing is looking great. Bob Sura has been more than any of us expected. Jon Barry was a huge acquisition. The David Wesley deal made me scratch my head but now I know why I'm not an NBA gm. Trading Maurice Taylor for cap room after next season was a great move and of course, Mike James for garbage. Of course, there was also Charlie Ward and Rod Strickland but I don't really think either of those moves can count against us. Especially since Rod Strickland was playing on 10 days and isn't around anymore. He's certainly built himself one hell of a case. When do they announce GM of the year? Is it after the regular season or after the championship? I think CD stands a better chance if it's after the championship because I think we're going to make some serious noise in the playoffs.

I'm not as sold on Colangelo's moves as some here. Signing Nash for the years and amount he did was risky. It was always going to pay off this year. He knew it, other GMs knew it, you knew it, I knew it. The big question is whether he's going to be a huge weight in a few years. Let's put it this way: Dallas thought he'd be sufficiently overpaid that Cuban wouldn't do it. That says a lot, coming from a franchise that has a reputation for not giving a damn.

If you just count this year's results...yeah, Colangelo did great. But he's done very little to set that team up for the future this season.

I am not sure how much credit CD should get for acquiring TMac. Tracy wanted to come here to play with Yao, and he had leverage with Orlando. In that kind of situation, every GM in the league can pull out this deal and laugh all the way to the bank.

The other deals CD did after the TMac trade are brilliant.

I don't agree with that. There were other teams trying to work out a trade for T-Mac as well. I'm sure he could have been convinced to go play for a team like Indiana. But more importantly, part of being good is making the easy shots.

Are you sure of that? Report out of Orlando at that time was that Tracy had his mind set on the Rockets, and I am not sure whether he was seriously considering playing with JO.

The big article that got everyone worked up initially said that T-Mac didn't want to go to SA or LA, but that his first choice was Houston, and that he would also like to play for Indiana or Detroit, since they both had trouble scoring in the playoffs.
