Are you sure the GM of the Year award shouldn't go to Isaiah...

I definitely think that the Suns' GM is the favorite to win this award, but CD has the advantage of making several small deals in the course of the season (that have ended up with GREAT results) to stay fresh on everyones mind. PHX did pick up JJ, but I don't think that it is a difference maker. Signign Nash and Q-Rich is great, but I'm not sure how much skill it takes to sign guys to big contracts. CD has won every trade since the offseason and signed guys on the cheap. The only blemish on his record is the Ward signing.

I think Ainge should get some recognition. No body has liked him ever since his playing days, but the guy is brilliant at drafting players. In two years, he drafted 4 good players without getting into lottery: Banks, Jefferson, West and Allen. Banks, West and Allen all have chances to be solid starters in the league, while Jefferson has some real star potential ahead of him.

Also, he has Pierce, Walker, Payton and Davis to complete in the East. I'd say he's done a good job so far.

I am proud of the moves by the Rockets. The Suns have impressed me mightily in the past. The trade to get Barkley. The trade to get rid of Barkley. The trade to get rid of Gugliotta. the trade to get rid of Hardaway, getting rid of Marbury.

They have built and rebuilt every 3 yrs or so. They have pulled some shrewd trades. On the business side - look at the price they got for that team. I think the Rockets are in good company and doing fine.

We will be shopping again in the off season and next year as many of our players are old and contracts expire.

    Go Rockets!!!!!!!

It didn't take much skill to get McGrady considering this is the team he wanted to come to and he had the leverage over his GM.

Dave D'Alessandro had this to say:

"It's probably time to add Houston's CARROLL DAWSON to the list of Executive of the Year candidates. He was slammed for giving up JIMMY JACKSON for DAVID WESLEY (ultimately, a wise move), and since then, he's added nothing but keepers. The latest is MIKE JAMES, who has taken over for the injured BOB SURA and averaged 23 points and five assists in his first three games. Of course, the Rockets' next four opponents (Dallas, at Seattle, at Phoenix, at Sac) were a combined 158-71 entering last night, so if they flop, CD will probably get hammered again for changing the mix too often."

I'm on record trashing the Wesley trade, but a lot of us were way off on it.

Who decides the GM of the year awards? If it is sportswriters, itll probably the Suns GM, because of all the hype. If it is fellow GMs, Dawson may have a chance

Some that I've talked to have the same beef about Colangelo over the last month or two -- he gave too much up for Jackson. Some would argue that Lampe and Jacobsen are luxuries on a team that shoots as well as PHX, and I'm a big a Jackson fan as any, but it was a dodgy move.

And the fact remains that the Suns could have Luol Deng or Al Jefferson on their team right now.

Yes you're right, even though I wrote in that thread that I wasn't arguing that Thomas was a good GM I think he should be GM of the year. You can even quote it.

That's not the point, you made a comment about it in that thread, there was no reason to bring it up in this thread. It was a week ago. I didn't respond in that thread because it was nothing I could say but there is no reason I have to keep being reminded of it.

I think CD is third behind the Paxon also. Drafting Deng and Gordon were really good moves. It took a while but that team has been built entirely through the draft and when you can do that it any sport, you really set your team up nicely for the future.

Everyone keeps sayin Colangelo is gonna win it but it's easy to be a good gm if when you have plenty of cap room to work with.

CD has done a great job on a fly with one hand tied behind his back the whole time.

If they end up 5th or 4th seed he should win it.

GM of the Year has to be the Sonics GM. He did nothing, but his team jump from the bottom to the top.

A lot of activities with good results is impresseive. Standstill with good results is amazing.
