that's what's funny to me, too. because i know so many folks from dallas who put dallas in that conversation. it's laughable. houston laughs at itself. even its natives do. we come up with funny t-shirts about all the bad things, and then write the phrase, "Houston...it's worth it!" houston has it's inferiority complex largely centering around media attention. but it's a pretty laid back, casual city. dallas is not.
the people on here, from houston, make it out to worse than it is. having said that, everything mentioned is this thread is true.
Not to me. But it depends on what you're looking for, I guess. I like it up here in the Dallas 'burbs. Property values are booming, the DFW area will pass up the Philly area this year to become the 4th largest in the nation (lots of California, Florida, and Northeast transplants coming here), the DFW area is probably the 2nd most attractive area for corporate relocations right now, the people I've met up here have almost always been nice, etc. I rarely see the venom on this side end of I45 that I see from Houstonians when Dallas is brought up. I'm on a Dallas forum and I often see questions from people visiting Houston wanting to know where to go and what to do... once in a blue moon you may get a snide anti-Houston remark, but nothing like I see on here. Makes ya wonder where the inferiority complex lies... That being said, they each have their advantages and disadvantages and honestly, they both have a bunch of similar crappy issues.
well said doc, but you're in frisco.... go south of 635, and around 75 i don't think anyone thinks dallas is like NY or LA, but the people on dallas (and a select few 'burbs) aspire to be like NY.
I don't see any similarities to New York, but I was in Los Angeles earlier this year, and I was surprised at how much the place seemed like Texas. I mean, the mountains were obviously something different, but the overall feel was very similar to big city Texas to me... just with curvier highways. Of course, I'm the guy who, having spent a good deal of time in both Dallas and Houston, sees little difference between the two, so these arguments always seem to me to be "That 3% to 5% of Dallas that's different than here SUCKS!!!" Why don't you all go live in Amarillo for a couple of decades like I had to, then you'll know a city that truly sucks.
I would have to disagree.....I think around 98 things started changing for the better. New construction, new stadiums, arenas, big events coming to Houston. In every movie it goes.......... 1. New York 2. L. A. 3. Houston 4. Chicago (maybe)
Dallas is not that bad to me. I didn't feel there's a big difference between Dallas and Houston. Texas is a great place to live in.
True. And I think this is where all the hate from houston comes from. The only houstonians I know who hate dallas are sports fan. Nobody else from houston really cares one way or another about dallas except sports fans. It all stems from having envy when we had the horrible oilers and they had the cowboys. Then combine that with the recent mavericks and houston sports fans hate dallas, simple as that.
um. I'm pretty sure miami and vegas are well above houston in this area. I love houston, but lets be realistic here.
Yes, Dallas does suck...Having said that, its all a matter of perspective... Yes, most people, not all people are stuck up...A lot of people do care about what you wear and/or what you drive, etc., but as long as you know that going in, then you're fine... Remember that crazy website about The beautiful room, with all the not so hot chicks...That is just the way some people are in Dallas... However, I went to the Ghostbar at the new W hotel for my b-day a last week and that place is Dallas to a tee...Well, there were tons of hot chicks and it was all about how much money you could spend...two beers and two drinks, $35 bucks...Ridiculous, but hey, I wasn't buying...
Here is Austin we don't worry about all the other cities and what they think, we KNOW we are better. DD
