It was partly a joke but yes I agree that the NHL has expanded too fast and there doesn't seem to be the overall market to support a league the size of the NHL with salaries comparable to the other Major pro-leagues.

MLS>>>>>>>>>>NHL. Major League Soccer is 100 times better than the National Hockey League.

The problem the NHL has is that it's hard to watch hockey on TV. It just is. Maybe if you're an ardent fan, you can follow the game on the tube, but the casual fan can't follow a hockey game on TV like they can basketball, baseball, football, or that other football game. ;)

The puck is too ****ing small!

The casual fan thinks you're supposed to watch the puck, which is half the problem.

I'll address a couple of the other posts on this page as well:

-The NHL players don't make a salary comparable to the other major leagues. The best player in the league makes 7 million per year, in the NBA there are a number of scrubs pulling down that kind of coin.

-MLS might be more entertaining than the NHL to some sports fans, and that's totally acceptable - but to argue that it is better isn't all that true. If you like soccer, sure it's better. But if you're a sports fan in general with an equal liking of all games - the NHL delivers the best players in the world while MLS replaces its young potential superstars (Adu) with old-washed up and injury prone icons (Beckham). I know Becks still has a lot in the tank, but if the MLS is going to go anywhere, it needs to hold on to guys like Adu as well.

I love hockey and can't wait for the season. One of my roommates is from Michigan and is a diehard Red Wings fan. I've never settled on a team to pull for since the NHL hasn't made its way here, so I'm adopting them. We've already ordered the Center Ice package.

    Choose the Canucks... :)

My brother used to be a big-time Wings fan, they have an exciting team these days (Zetterberg and Datsyuk).

Everyone here is missing the point. This has nothing to do with Hockey or the NHL or the number of people that go to Rockets games. Its pretty straighforward really:

    **** Dallas.

Everyone on this board should be able to agree with that.
