You guys who are bashing redefined and the NHL really come off looking like a bunch of a-holes.

The NHL likes to take shots at other sports but no one even watches hockey. A few years ago, legitimately, repeats of the Cosby show on Nick was beating the NHL in the ratings.

T.V. ratings (and selling more spots to sponsors) is more important then attendance. MLB, NBA and NFL must be doing something right if they're multi-billion dollar global sports while the NHL is struggling to beat reruns in the ratings. That quote showed you how classless and desperate the NHL is.

Take a look in the mirror friend. Your precious NHL shouldn't be trashing other leagues. And it's convenient that you stand up for redefined yet this is the first post he made in this thread, when no one referenced him:

I guess that makes him a classy poster in your eyes huh?

Probably because the NHL just trashed all the other pro-sports? I don't see MLB, NBA or NFL trashing the NHL. And if you said that about baseball that wouldn't be true because attendance, T.V. ratings and national appeal says otherwise.

I know, trust me, I know. But this isn’t NHL vs NFL/NBA/MLB, rather, the Dallas Stars vs the other leagues. People here actually watch the Stars play. I know you may not believe it, but Dallas is a sports town. NHL is a poor league here in American. Hockey isn't even my 4th favorite sport. I don’t care about the other teams out there. If you have a team to root for, then it’s fun to watch.

Anyone can easily enjoy 2 NBA teams playing in primetime. There’s no questioning that. But like someone mentioned, this year’s Finals ratings were horrible! So maybe my former statement is inaccurate, and NBA is like the NHL in more ways than you think… This is a bit off topic but makes a good point: The Astros World Series run was the worst rated World Series ever! But didn’t everyone in Houston watch them? I don’t care if other people around America didn’t, I don’t blame them. It’s the exact same thing with the Stars.

These billboards are just out there for a joke, and nothing else. To reference the NFL as a woman’s league is flat out hilarious. What else do you want? If Cuban has no problem with this, then by God, you shouldn’t even give a single damn. The Stars know they can't compete with the other 3 major teams here, but they don't want to be left out either.

And Rocks, when I said I really can't stand idiots, I was referring to what many of guys love to do in this section of the forum whenever there is a topic regarding Dallas.

What's up with the NHL hate?

The billboards are funny. Nuff said.

The other posters aren't being very classy. But I don't get why you take the ad so seriously. It is precisely because hockey is behind football, baseball, and basketball in popularity that they can get a kick of it without sounding classless. If the WNBA took a swipe at the NBA, it would have been hilarious. If it's the other way around, it would have been classless.

Same thing if Apple laughed at Microsoft, or Wendy's laughed at McDonald's. Same thing if minorities laughed at white men. You get the gist?

The dominant party is always the one that get kicked without being offensive because they are secure.

I dont understand how you think what we are saying is classless, but dont feel that way about what the NHL said. This referee scandal is a very big deal for the NBA and they are still trying to control the damage. Now the NHL or Dallas Stars come out and make a joke of it. How is that not classless.

The NHL has all sorts of problems. Horrible television ratings, terrible public interest, their own betting scandal involving a former player (Rick Tocchet), and the loss of an entire season due to the strike a couple years ago. The last thing they should be doing is making fun of other leagues and not expect some fall back criticism on thier product.

I thought that a first, but then it still made no sense to me so I thought they were trying to be clever about those two and the fact that Selig wasn't sure if he wanted to sacrifice his time to see Bonds breaking the HR record. I guess I put to much thought into it. I still think that one makes no sense, although the NBA and NFL ones are kind of funny. Still wouldn't watch a full hockey game unless someone offers to pay me like $50 or something.

Since when did humorous ads (that owners of Dallas' other franchises found funny) become "trashing"?

Perhaps the Stars should have included a ";)" on the bottom corner of each billboard.

    NHL = No Honor Left

Perhaps the NHL should stick to self promotion, and not dissing more profitable sports? Hmmmm?

Grasping at straws after the most recent major sports lock-out, anyone?

The NFL should put up one that says "Let us know when the ice is 100 yards long, you have rain and/or wind and can sell out 60,000+ seat venues for years on end all the while having every major network fight for the rights to televise every game, not to mention spawn your own channel."

The NBA could say similar... and the MLB, too.

NHL's response - when a game is played in Canada.

Seriously - upper deck tickets to Toronto Maple Leaf games go for over $200 regularly due to the overwhelming demand. Vancouver Canucks games are at least $60 for the worst tickets in the house for any given game. I'm sure Montreal, Calgary, and Ottawa are the same. Edmonton, on the other hand, is a crappy team right now - so you could probably get tickets for $40.

Also - NHL Centre-Ice is making a killing with ratings, TSN and Sportsnet fight for games, and Hockey Night in Canada is as popular as ever in the great white north.

While I wish Vancouver had an NBA team or Toronto had an NFL team...I also don't understand why Americans are so against hockey. I wish, like many of you, that the NHL would only play in it's key markets - Canada, Detroit, Minnesota, Boston, New York, and other key US cities - but I don't understand why people hate on it so much.

Isn't it better if the little guy is poking fun at the big guys? I see this as a joke-campaign...if they aimed something at the MLS, who they are bigger than, perhaps it would be considered tacky and rude...but against the NFL, NBA, and MLB - it only shows respect.

I was a pretty big casual NHL fan back in the late 90s. My favorite team was/is the Detroit Red Wings. And because of that, I didn't like the Avalanche.

I also despised the New Jersey Devils. I respected them, but just hated the neutral zone trap.

Colorado vs Detroit was one of the sports rivalries of the decade.

I don't mind watching hockey but the NHL shouldn't have teams where ice doesn't naturally occur.

This is silly. They shouldn't avoid being anywhere there is profit, no matter the weather.

I doubt he meant that in a literal sense, rather that most cities that would turn a profit also happen to have ice and most cities that don't have any snow or ice tend to be horrible markets.
