I care about the Mavs because I enjoy watching them play!! Everytime I see them...I ask myself why couldn't it have been the Houston Mavericks?? How many times have you heard the announcers say "what an entertaining half" when they broadcast a Rockets game. I have never heard it! Mavs are on national TV at least once a week for a reason.
lol dude, anyone with even a small hint of knowledge about basketball will be able to tell you that that play wasn't designed for amare to be taking a 3-point shot. i was expecting him to touch pass it back to raja bell (who inbounded the ball) for a 3 but raja was covered so amare was forced to take it. that play resembles the last play by the rockets against the warriors earlier this year when yao was forced to take that turnaround 3 pointer. do you really think JVG designed the play for yao to be taking a turnaround 3? sometimes plays don't always go as planned.
So you would rather take the Mavericks and the ZERO championships to the Rockets richer history. More power to you then.
That's exactly my point. The play vs. GS was designed for Yao to touch-pass it to Head for 3. What happened was the Dunleavy read it and ran to Head. Yao was forced to take the 3. The Suns play wasn't designed for Amare to take a long J, either, but it ended up that way because of the opposing defense. My point is that it's difficult to design a play that guarantees a good shot with just 1.3 seconds left, even for a supposed genius on offense like D'Antoni. Therefore, it was idiotic to say Van Gundy was an idiot simply because his inbounds play did not result in a high % shot. Neither Van Gundy nor D'Antoni deserved blame for that play. It's impossible to guarantee a good shot with 1.3 second left.
Mike D'Antoni was a coach for the past USA team that got beat by Greece. The same coach who was supposed to know a thing or two about international style ball. Got to give him credit for bringing in a fun to watch and successful brand of ball and producing a 2 time MVP. But Popovich, Avery, Riley and Larry Brown and Phil Jackson have gotten to the big game in recent years. He can have the entertaining ball all he wants, if Van Gundy and the Rockets make it to the championship game Van Gundy's passed him up. Oh wait, Van Gundy already HAS been there
