Well, that explains it all then. Should've checked that out first and the whining would've been explained.
LOL - it's on the front page of the Dallas Morning News website. I didn't even know Laura Miller was a democrat. Dallas should be helping Houston, without delay. 'nuff said
Kind of like Houston helped NO without delay by closing the Astrodome and turning people away after 11,000 of the promised 25,000 spaces were filled, right? Life is more complex than "we should help". There are realities of safety, supplies, space, and a lot more to be considered. How many of Dallas' shelters are filled? What kind of supplies do they have? What kind of access do they have to supply immediate needs? For how many people? If they did take people, would they have to turn them away in the end because of any of these issues? Do you know ANY of this? Or do you just like to bash other cities' policies because you can?
People weren't turned away for long. They delayed entry for four hours until they could open up Reliant Center. Bad analogy.
Maybe Dallas should bring in more volunteers, food, and build some damn shelters. This is not rocketscience. Mount your resources and get it done.
I still fail to see the problem. They are trying to help by letting the government know that they don't think they have the resources for any more evacuees. If they thought this and didn't ask for help or say anything about it while welcoming evacuees while underresourced, many more problems could/would arise. By letting someone know 72 hours in advance, they are helping the evacuees far more than allowing them to come in knowing they don't have the resources to handle them. This is very responsible of them.
As a matter of fact I did, but the point being, Dallas shouldn't be a last resort, period...There are plenty of places in the DFW area that could accomodate...If not, I guess we need to come up with plan B, like San Antonio or another neighbor willing to assist, no matter what...btw, if this was the other way around, you wouldn't hear this coming from Houston...
