Just to play Devil's Advocate a bit, Houston also exhibits the symptoms of having an inferiority complex. We constantly compare ourselves to Dallas when if we REALLY though we were THAT superior, we wouldn't waste our time comparing ourselves with a city we deem THAT beneath us. Do we bother comparing ourselves with El Paso? No. San Antonio? Not really. Now, I do think we are the better city, but we get a bug up our butt because sometimes it seems like Dallas gets more attention than us. EX: Why in the hell is there an ESPN Dallas website?
Dallas usually starts it (like with the article that resulted in this thread). As far as the ESPN Dallas website..Dallas is a bigger TV market. Houston is #11 while dallas is #5.
lol this post plus your signature.. as for the espn dallas thing, dallas gets a ton of exposure because they are part of a bigger metro/market than houston.. however as a city alone they really cant compete with houston, their metro affords them many things they wouldnt get as a lone city, again much like san antonio, despirte being a oine of the top ten largest cities, san antonio by all measures is a small market.. if you go to espn dallas the front page reads "ESPN Dallas/Fort Worth" they need fort worths population to thrive as a large metro..
Technically, Clear Lake is in Houston but I get you. In the heart of the city. It's like someone living in Staten Island and telling outsiders they live in New York City.
Washington is a bit douchey, but I think Midtown Houston stacks up favorably with Uptown Dallas. It's even closer to downtown, fairly similar number of bars and restaurants, tons of apartment complexes and generally a young professional vibe. Everything in walking distance. I've spent a lot of time in both; I live in Midtown now and one of my best friends lives in Uptown Dallas. Fairly comparable, though the bar scene in Midtown is generally more relaxed and laid back (less $30K millionaires), which I think reflects the city as a whole. They're both good areas for single people in their 20s and 30s to hang out; just depends on whether you want to pop your collar or not.
My fiance's father owns a restaurant in Uptown Dallas so I frequent there a good amount of time. While Uptown Dallas has nice scenery and great for people watching, I think midtown/downtown Houston has more to offer. Sure there aren't a lot of restaurants like Uptown Dallas but a lot of things are within walking distance in midtown/downtown. You can easily head to Cyclone Anaya's for dinner and then head to Howl at the Moon afterwards for drinks or go grab sushi at Azuma's in downtown and walk a block over to Flying Saucer for drinks. It's like having that feeling like you're experiencing a city whereas Uptown Dallas feels....artificial like it's trying too hard. Granted Washington felt that way when I used to go down there a lot but Houston, with all its warts, feels at home and comfortable. Dallas...makes you feel detached from humanity.
Are you insane??? Lol Houston has way more scenes for young people. Dallas is all suburbia save for one part of it.
all of these places that serve sliders and crap are not high end dining. They are trendy places to have over priced drinks. The real food in Htown is the vast hole in the walls from all ethnicities.
Im sure everyone would rather be in the best city in Oklahoma than the best city in mexico. Just saying.
