Cowboys fans are Cowboys for life. Why do you think so many people still gobbled up Cowboy tickets and mechandise even when we absolutely sucked. How many other teams can you say this about? People are just all jealous because even when the Cowboys suck they are still America's team. If god had his say, obviously the Cowboys would win, but I think he has better things to do this weekend and the Cowboys will have to win this one on their own. It will be really tough, it will take a great defensive effort. They are capable of it, but must really have to be really sharp. I think bad weather would help, because the more it is a hitting, defensive, special teams, oriented game the better chance this Cowboys team has of beating this Iggle team. If it is a track meet and game of the QBs making play after play, very small chance McNabb would lose it. Even if the Cowboys lose, all is not lost. What great progress under Parcells. The Boys will make the playoffs, have a good chance at winning 1 play off game, and regardless will be a front runner from years to come with that young defense. Having a chance to win the East this year at this point is beyond what any reasonable fan could have asked, now if we win, whoo hoo!!!! I love to bury those Iggles as Tampa did last year--for the Boys to do it would be such a bitter pill for the nasty, broken neck cheering, battery throwing, Iggles fans.
Yeah, crazy how God was into whores and cocaine so intensely when we was helping HIS Cowboys get riled up for their 93 and 94 Superbowl runs. This is why I feared moving from DC to Texas when I was a kid: Cowboys fans.
Oh, but DesertScar, good analysis despite all that other stuff. I agree with everything from "It will be really tough..." onward.
Sure sure. Cowboys fans are cowboys fans for life. They just don't let anyone know about it when the team is horrible. I can see where people are coming from on the bandwagon beef. Moreso than any other professional sports franchise that I have seen, fans run really hot and cold with the Cowboys. "Ride the fence" fans will put out flags and banners and wear t-shirts when the team is winning, but won't say peep and will barely acknowledge that "America's Team" is indeed their team when the Cowboys are reeling off 5-11 seasons. It's annoying as hell.
Raven, Surely your not talking about any of us here because we've consistently been posting about games here over the last few years. It's common knowledge who does and doesn't support the Cowboys here. We were still here talking about how lame we were during those 5-11 seasons while, although disgruntled, still supporting the team. These other Cowboy fans your talking about...I'm not sure who or where they are but you apparently know plenty of them(your friends or co-workers or somebody). Every team has people come out of the woodwork when they go from losing to winning. Yes, since the Cowboys were "America's team" for years during the Landry years, there are obviously a helluva lot more fans to contend with and a percentage of those who jump on and off the bandwagon at will. Still, it never ceases to amaze me the amount of criticism the Cowboys and Cowboys fans endure. At some point, it becomes obvious there is a lot of bias among the criticizers that has clouded any objective judgements of the team or the fans. They just hate the star symbol...or have issues. Regardless, I don't really care. It's all pretty stupid and a waste of time. Your(not necessarily you...but where the "you" label fits) right there if the team messes up to point it out(as if we don't understand or know it). Then, your pissed off if we do something well which goes against your expectations. It doesn't change anything. It just makes for humorous reading fodder to know that our team or we obviously have gotten on the criticizer's nerves. It will make it much sweeter as we get continue to make progress toward a more mature and better team. These last games will prove one way or the other if the Cowboys are a winning team. Regardless, I think we know our team is young and inconsistent. This obviously leads to us not knowing which team is going to show up for any given game. When we are on, then we can compete. It makes it interesting...that is for sure. I'm not convinced our defense is totally full of holes because of one bad game versus Miami. I wonder what other teams could have done to stop Miami because they didn't make any mistakes on offense that game. Whether that was all the defense's fault...who knows. They executed their game plan to perfection and the result may have very well been the same against any other team. Other than that game, our defense has done pretty well and still leads the league. Wait! Then, someone will be obvious to point out the Cowboys have a weak schedule this year. So, that just explains it all away like our defense has been rewarded by bad teams with bad offenses. As someone previously pointed out(rc cola) in another thread, we've played against teams with a combined winning percentage higher than that of several other teams. So, maybe they should be leading the league in defense then? In conclusion, I'm in the same boat as Parcells. I don't quite understand whether our team is a winning team or just an average team. I think I will understand better after these next games where we are at. Then, you(where the label applies) and your criticizing cronies are free to point out the bad side of anything Cowboys-related all you like. Or, maybe we are there to call you on it. In the end, it just doesn't matter. It just doesn't matter if we win or lose. We(or the few here anyway) are still going to be fans looking forward to next season after Parcells makes some changes in the off-season. Maybe the fans your talking about are the kicker rednecks who I despise anyway. If so, then good riddance.
I think a big part of it is that you live in Dallas and post on a Rockets forum, which is largely populated by Houston sports fans. That includes Oilers/Texans fans, most of whom made it their business to hate the Cowboys for rivalry reasons if for no other. It's an interstate thing. Personally, after Emmitt left, there really weren't any other Cowboy players or coaches (save Jerry Joans) left that I disliked for any reason, but it's a lot more fun to hate a team that is not your own that it is to be apathetic towards them. Makes the season more interesting. Some people just mistake "sports" hate for "I want to kill you because you raped my sister" hate. There's a big difference. Another major reason for the general acidic attitude towards the team is the whole "America's Team" thing. They were America's Team even when they were being arrested for drugs and and whatnot right and left. And there were fans that still somehow insisted that that was a valid "point" in any argument about anything that involved the Cowboys (and some that didn't). "Oh, well, they're America's Team, so if you don't like it you can stop watching the NFL." I've heard crap like that so much it drives me crazy. Sure, there are moron fans of every other team, but none of them run the America's Team crap because no other team has that label. It just all seems pretty ridiculous to me.
Been too busy to post in this thread, but I finally got a chance to. Really big game today. I'm with most of the other Cowboy fans that thinks this will not be an easy game to win and that the Cowboys will probably have to do a lot of good things to win the game. Our defense got beat up last game, but they should try and come back and show why some many respect their D. I don't really expect much from the offense. I think I read something about them going several qtrs without scoring on the road, so I don't foresee 3 or 4 TDs by the offense. That said, Quincy and the rest of the gang will have to step up big. For most of the guys, this is probably the biggest game they have ever played in, especially in the NFL. Time to see if they choke or come through in the clutch. I'd like Troy Hambrick to get it going, but, then again, the last 5 times the Eagles have given up 100yd rushing to a RB, they won each game, so maybe Troy can stay at a 1.1 ypc average. This would be a nice win to have. Beat Philly, and the Cowboys would have a good chance of winning the division and securing a playoff spot. Never would have thought that would be happening. Even if they do lose the game, they still have 3 games to play, needing to win 2 or all 3 of them to get into the playoffs, something I never would have imagined. I'm now looking a bit too far, but next season should be pretty nice after the players and coaches, primarily Parcells, will know what to expect. Then again, in the NFL, injuries and salaries can screw up all that. Man, I got to get to sleep...
Phillies will cover the spread. McNabb is doing very well this year, and Dallas does not play well on the road.
All I know is I'm not eating pecan pie while the cowboys are playing this week because based on last weeks performance they don't play well while I'm eating pecan pie. I'm hoping this game is much like the carolina game where no one gave the boys a chance to win and they came thru. Cowboys by a field goal 24-21
I'll go to chat and give you Texans play by play interspersed with commentary on why Jerry Jones is the devil.
from where i'm sitting, it doesn't look like either houston or dallas fans have much worth saying after their performances today. lol
bizzaro stupid quincy is back. our offensive line play has done a bad job. quincy's passing has been terrible on the run(because of the lousy offensive line play) as well. hambrick actually has had a decent game. i think tuna will seriously be looking for new starters in both positions during the off-season. we just didn't show for the 2nd half. also, in the secondary, mario edwards needs to go and maybe others. i don't think we will make the playoffs and, if we do, then it doesn't matter anyway with the way were playing.
Ugh? Than why do they always sell out games and sell more merchandise than just about any other team even when they have sucked for what 5-7 years? True Cowboy fans are the epitome of committed fans. Now the the 20% of the population who moves to the Cowboys (pencil in Rams, Bucs, Titans, etc) just when their good, they are not indicative of most Cowboy fans. I am a Cowboys fans but I have always was a huge Oiler fan. I don't know who I would have routed for if it was between Earl's Luv Ya Blue and the Boys--I'd had probably gone for the Oilers just because they did not have a superbowl. I think the animosity has almost always been South to North, Cowboys trully hated rivals are the Steelers (also true Houston fans real hated rivals as well), Skins, Giants & Iggles. The Iggles are just better right now. The Cowboys had to play mistake free they they were not even close--key penalities (5 yards at the wrong time means a lot to their offense), key TO, poor special teams (even lucky their 1st FG went through). The difference is in one position, QB. Given the Cowboys don't have a McNabb (who you can sourround with average players and specialists and have a good offense) the Coyboys need to a) get a better QB or b) get Quincy to be better (he is very young) & get better weapons around him. Personally, Dallas WRs are the most overrated in the league. They are not physical at all and Bryant and Glenn drop way too many passes. Now WR isn't a huge problem for Dallas--but they need a major playmaker in the offense be in an elite QB, elite RB (more more of these guys) or a truly special WR (Moss, Owens, Harrison type). The defense is coming around great. Still some minor holes but it is a great young defense. The Boys are far farther along than I could have imagined, they could even win a playoff game against the Vikes or Panthers. Can they play with the Rams (really the best NFC team--if Faulk is healthy they will kill the Iggles who have a much weaker, less physical, defense than previous ones even if it did not show versus the Boys) or the Iggles--not yet, but maybe by next year.
Hmm that's funny...let's see, the Eagles have allowed big or good games to MacAllister, Green, Davis, Hambrick, etc. The funny thing is, they won all those games.
The Iggles are good, I expect them to make the NFC championship. Just the Rams have more weapons (especially if Faulk is healthy) and are better IMO. Besides, the Iggles MO is making the conference championship only to get punked badly. McNabb is great, but the rest of that team is just too ordinary.
So then, the Rams shouldn't be having a problem with the Browns then should they? GO EAGLES Go anyteam that plays against the cowpokes.
