No problem Manny. I think Bill is a great coach, but I do agree that some of the reporters do need to get off his nuts. I was genuinly surprised he got those players to focus and play smart for almost the whole game last night. I haven't seen that often in the past 5 years.
Yea, CK, I got to thinking as I went to go to lunch on why is that the case (media loving him so much)? I mean Mike Shanahan has won 2 Super Bowls just like Parcells did and he did back to back and has never lost a Super Bowl unlike Parcells. However, you never hear anymore about how great of a coach Mike is. Some of it is obviously personality as MS is a more withdrawn person towards the media than Parcells. However, the biggest reason, I think, is the fact that Parcells started his coaching career in New York and was so revered there that it carried with him wherever he goes. It just galls me to see people act that way around one person. I get the impression that they wouldn't act that way around the President of the US, but they make an exception with the "Tuna". Something we can agree on in this thread! However, if you want to bash her, Surf, you can go ahead but I'll sit this one out as I am too "bash" tired already!
Don't forget that he got ZERO coaching last year. Former O Coordinator Bruce Coslet hated Q and was totally in love with Hutch. He didn't do one damn thing to help Q last year, so essentially Quincy is a second year QB, not a third year. Now don't get me wrong. I don't think Q will ever develop into a superstar or anything, but I do think that he can be a servicable starting QB for us...
Did anyone see John Lucas on the field? Didnt know what he was doing there.......maybe he was just fascinated by all the white lines. That was terrible......
I saw someone posted that in the Rockets forum. I'm not sure I see why everyone is so keen on pointing it out. I guess he's a closet Cowboys fan or he is rehabbing someone. LT was there so maybe he was rehabbing him and decided he belonged on the Texas side of the field. JeeberD, you make some points I was unaware of as far as coaching Quincy goes. Quincy did kind of put himself in a doghouse last year, though, so I can see how he was dissed in favor of Hutch by the coach(es). I don't think QC will be another Warren Moon. But, I think he has the potential to be a good quarterback but not at the superstar level. An interesting stat after two games: Cowboys lead the league in passing yards and total yards per game. If you would have told me after last season this would be the case, then I would have checked into an insane asylum.
Q did get himself in the doghouse last year, but that was towards the end of the season. Something about him getting a bad attitude (and I'm not sure that I can blame him, seeing the way he got shafter). I remember watching Hard Knocks last year and seeing Coslet just go off about Q. He never gave him a chance. Coslet wanted a pure pocket passer, plain and simple. He wasn't willing to work with Q, who he labled undisciplined. Quincy just needed some coaching, and thankfully Parcells is giving him that...
Completely agree manny. I think Shanahan does get respect and is as good of a coach(or at the least very, very close) to Bill, but isn't a media darling for all the reasons you mentioned. The only reason I would rank Bill ahead of Mike at all is because of his hand in reviving 2 completely horrible joke franchises. I didn't think he would do good in either and he proved me wrong, so I have to give him props for that. As far as how Quincy and hambrick performed last night ... Tham is a joke. He looks like ****** Ron Dayne out there. Q Carter continues to impress me. I didn't think he had as horrible of a game last week as others though. He only had one crappy game the this preseason. I don't ever think he'll be a stud qb, but I'm starting to think maybe the team can win with him at the helm if he's surrounded with some talent. Improve the line some, find a rb, and you have a good enough offense for ball control and let the d win games. He's better than some other starters in the league imo.
I kind of messed up my comment about Smith. He did have some great runs, but after a while, it seemed as though he couldn't get anything going. I was just thinking that with more practice, he'll be able to see the field better and get some good yards. He's been a big surprise this year. (personally, I think they should have kept him over Swinton and not both.) I'm not going to get into the MNF "good game or not" issue. As for the media loving Parcells, that seems true to what I've seen. I keep seeing questions like "When will the get to the SuperBowl?" and I'm thinking I'd be happy just to make the playoffs. I really don't think we should blame Parcells as much as the media. Kind of like the Lebron hype. That said, I know very little about Parcells except for all I've taken in this past few months. I only started watching football about 4 yrs ago and I didn't really analyze it untill last year. I think many consider him the best coach not just because he won 2 SB, but he it seems like he can take a sucky team and take them to the SB in a short time. As for Quincy, I tend to not look that far into the future. I don't see a David Carr or Mike Vick falling into our hands, plus QC hasn't been truly evaluated IMO. He is our starting QB right now and so far, he's been giving us the best shot of winning. I have hope that with some coaching, those little mistakes will go away and we will see a pretty good QB. I doubt he'll be able to throw 60yd bombs right on a rope, but he can get those 10-15yd passes and then throw in a 35-40 yarder. Plus, his scrambling is much apprecitiated. That's about all I can think about at the moment.
Good point. I was born in Dallas and have been a Cowboys fan my whole life, and even I dont understand the obsession the media has with Parcells. I've been watching ESPN for the past hour and you'd think that Parcells won the Superbowl with his performance last night. Dont get me wrong, I'm thrilled with the outcome on MNF, just a little confused with the media attention to a 1-1 team. The Cowboys (and Parcells) still have a long, long way to go. BTW, does anyone know what the overnight rating were?
According to the cowboys official site, the overnight rating in Dallas was 31.5, which means nearly 1.5 million people were watching the game. Don't know about the nation.
Yea, if you say so , biyotch. I wish that I had Tuna's money because I sure wouldn't be posting here or doing any of the other stuff with my life right now. I would always be travelling.
I dont mean to keep this thread alive, but I just want to share some info for the folks who were hating on the Cowboys. Love them or hate them, they draw and audience. ABC Runs Away with Monday An overtime "Monday Night Football" game carried ABC to a ratings win Monday, while The WB debuted its Monday lineup to strong numbers. ABC averaged an 11.8 rating/19 share in primetime to win the night. CBS was second at 7.8/12, followed by NBC, 4.3/7, and FOX, 3.7/6. The WB scored a strong 6.9/10 in the metered markets, and UPN averaged 3.8/5. Among adults 18-49, ABC led with a 6.5 rating. CBS averaged 3.7, FOX 2.6 and NBC 2.5.
Yea, that is what I was thinking. MNF, no matter who is playing, is always in the top 3 rated shows during the fall.
