Who other than family would pay for him to play on this roster when its the last thing we need? Everyone knows you sometimes have to hire family, even if you don't need them to work for you...
Glad to have Dalembert as a Rocket! Lets see what the big fellas got! I'm interested to see how he fits in with our team. I think having Dalembert on our squad will not only help our defense, but also help in the development of both Thabeet and Hill. I think Thabeet having another 7ft player to play against in practice is a major advantage. Despite the proposed trades not going through, I'm still really excited about this Rockets team.
Having a defensive presence similar to what we had with Deke (aged version), would be so fun again. Similar offense as well, unfortunaltely. I really miss the finger wag, and how nothing made the Toyota Center scream louder, than one of his blocks. No more lay-up drills in the paint with Sammy here...I got my Christmas present.
YAO TO THE RESCUE. Man I love YAO so much. YAO is Rockets4LIFE. Sammy said YAOs words had a big impact on him to sign with us. THANKS YAO !!!!! WAY TO GO YAO MING !!!! YAO MING is THE MAN.
Oh you mean having a bunch of young guys with some decent potential but no decent play time for them?
Hopefully Rockets just paid $7 million for a 2012 first round pick. He's a big with talent and an attractive contract ... AKA ... Asset
I'm really pleased with picking up Dalembert, and the price was right. He'll bring a tough defensive presence in the paint with his rebounding, elite shot-blocking and overall athleticism. Although he'll never be a 1, 2 or 3 scoring option, he can score including a mid-range jump shot. I hope the expressions of great attitude are genuine, and not political. Whilst high character does not win games, I'd rather have players with it rather than without it.
Its not a question of who signed him, its about YAO influencing his decision to choose Rockets over other teams. Why did he choose Houston when no one else wants to come? Lots of other teams needs centers too. But YAO pitched in, did some lobbying on our behalf. Even after he has left, YAO is still contributing to blocking shots grabbing boards and protecting the paint for the Rockets. Mad Props to YAO. Sammy could have gone else where and we would be stuck with Hill and Thabeet.
Don't exaggerate Yao's influence here. The overriding factors were money and playing time. Nobody was offering him much. Miami had playing time but no money. Sacramento offered him a few more dollars but he would be behind Demarcus there. He didn't want to sign here really, because he know he could be traded or cut next season. But it was the best shot he had to resurrect his career. And for the Rockets, he was not Plan A, B, or C, but more likely somewhere around Plan E.
