He can dfenitely help, no doubt. The area he excells in is the area where we suffer the most. He can be the perfect rental. But not with Idleman at the helm. He will give more loyalty minutes to Miller and Hill before he gives any to Sammy D. Forget it, I think Dick Aldeman thinks we are fine once Miller comes back. Morey might get us help but Aldeman will say we already have guys who are setlled into that spot and he knows what they bring to the table.
He's an expiring...what contract are you talking about? Anyway, if he can be had for JJ + exception + 2nd rounder then go for it. I wouldn't give any big assets for him since he won't make nearly as much when he's a FA, we can sign him then.
You can't combine an exception with a player. So you would either have to give up Yao for Dalembert (which works straight up because the Kings have cap room), or Jeffries and filler. If it was just Jeffries, it would be worth it. More than that is overpaying for Dalembert, unless the Kings add value. He probably wouldn't even start.
dalembert would help us win a few more games this year and still miss the playoffs. plus, he's not young enough to help us in the future. forget these band-aid short term solutions. the rockets need to plan for the future.
We would have to give up about equal or more dollars in salary in a straight up trade for Dalembert, because Sacramento is right at the minimum allowable total salary.
If we were looking to bring in a backup center for a deep playoff push, I'm all for Dalembert; Otherwise, what is the point? PF: Scola/Hayes/Patterson C: Dalembert/Miller/Patterson I'd rather watch Patterson develop than bring over Dalembert to weaken our lotto pick.
You've been wanting to tank and rebuild for 9 years now Agree, on 2nd thought it'd be better to apply all assets INCLUDING expirings towards an All Star player, instead of just a swap of expirings. If the Rockets got Dalembert back beginning of December, you coulda auditioned Dalembert and saw what he did for the team, then flipped him at the trade deadline. Deal for him now and you're saying he's the guy you're going to count on. His price tag is too high for that. What I like about Dalembert IS that he's a free agent next year. You can bring him back at a reduced very cap friendly price to be a younger version of Deke. Rockets already have Brad Miller for that, though...
The only reason he doesn't get minutes this year is because they'd rather play the young guy Cousins, don't kid yourself. You vastly overstate his offensive deficiencies, he's not Cato or anything. This year is the first year since his rookie year that he's been a negative offensive player. On the flip side, he's consistently been one of the best defenders in the NBA for a long time now.
9 years? lol i want to rebuild not tank and that just been for 2 years now thank you very much! 2 years ago i was telling everyone that tmac and yao are breaking down, when most people wanted to believe that they will just get over their injuries then dominate. i said get a kings ransom for each while you still can. turned out that tmac was only valued for his expiring contract, and now so is yao. the team is left with less production and less assets to move, and subsequently less wins each season.
didn't realize he was expiring, but why sign him. Yes he might be able to help us slightly, but we're not contending this year with or without him so why bother? there's got to be a better move.
I'd trade Brooks, Yao, and our TE for Dalembert, Casspi, Landry, and Udrih. Doing so would save the Kings a lot of cash plus give them Brooks, who they've supposedly been after. Then in the off season you can go after Nene, Gasol, Chandler, or Perkins. If you strike out with those guys maybe you can get Yao back or Oden or resign Dalembert for a relatively affordable price. PG: Lowry/Udrih SG: Martin/Lee SF: Casspi/Budinger/Williams PF: Scola/Landry/Patterson C: Free Agent/Hill/Miller The great thing about this deal is that you keep most of your young, cheap assets: draft picks, Hill, Patterson, Budinger, and Lee (plus Casspi). You're still in a position to deal for Chris Paul.
They dont have to take on contracts. That definitely wouldn't make sense. JJ + battier works, i believe. You don't take on contracts and can probably still re-sign batiter if they wanted to. If Dalembrt leaves, you don't lose anything. Chuck at center is also not a good thing. We've seen that before. He's just ok defensively at center, but great at PF. He's just too short to get the bulk of the minutes there.
forgot to add, you can also use Yao's contract, but i'd imagine they'd try another move with that. If they don't, the it would make more sense to use Yao's expiring and keep Battier for defensive purposes and veteran leadership, since the point of picking up Dalembert would be to make the playoffs, possibly upset someone int he first round.
I'm 100% for this move. Age is isn't really a factor because guess what? KM and Scola are in their prime and near their 30's already. Unless you plan on really starting over and trading every good player we have, Dalembert gives us a nice defensive player who is in his prime. His offense sucks? So what, how much do we depend on Chuck Hayes' scoring again? We desperately need the two things Dalembert give us (ie. paint presence, shot-blocking). Dalembert right now is the epitome of buy low. His contract is expiring, and Sactown doesn't want anything but contracts in return. Plus, Dalembert's offense isn't this bad remember how good Landry was on our team? What happened to him when he got traded to Sacramento? If we can't get anyone better DM should trade for this guy.
Rebounds and blocks by themselves don't really say anything about a player's defense. So I don't really see the point in people pointing them out. That said, before this season, Dalembert generally had a lot of success on the defensive end. So I'm willing to give him a pass on this year's fail. That said, my personal opinion on the guy is that he's not good enough by himself to really help us. Especially because we have another non-factor on offense in Battier. So to me, Dalembert would be a great move if Morey had separate deal for Melo/Iggy/Wallace/Granger type. But by itself, I see very little change in terms of wins. Also, at 29, Dalembert's at a dangerous age in terms of his extension money. While a rental wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, it doesn't really change the direction of this franchise. I'd rather Morey spend his time on younger players.
You should try linking to the original source I assume it was Marc Stein As for why is it expiring-for-expiring? [rquoter]The Kings, sources say, are open to moving big man Samuel Dalembert during the next 27 days before the deadline, but they remain unwilling to take back anything other than expiring contracts to preserve maximum flexibility on the other side of a new collective bargaining agreement ... unless someone wants to donate a star. With Dalembert possessing an expiring contract valued at $13.4 million, it's not easy to find a match that keeps the Kings in the same cap position as they are now. As previously stated in this cyberspace, Sacramento's willingness to part with coveted swingman Omri Casspi is contingent largely on the other team's willingness to take back one of the Kings' two longer-term contracts (Beno Udrih or Francisco Garcia) as part of the exchange.[/rquoter]
Do you want no move at all? Do you think Yao is effective just sitting on the bench injured? Seeing that the salaries don't match up I think maybe Yao for Dalambert + fillers or Yao + Aaron Brooks for Dalambert + somebody.
I am for this move if it doesnt damage us too much in pulling off other, larger, better deals. Using Yao's contract to do this would be an example of a trading worthwhile asset that could hamper other trades. IE, Yao's contract is one of our better pieces at the moment. Unless we have thrown in the towel on getting a better player than Dalambert by the trade deadline, we need to keep our best trading chips together and intact. Throwing away pieces now will be regrettable come trade deadline time. Probably everyone, including self, dont want to wait till the deadline to do something. See things changed. Yesterday in fact. Everyone knows that players previously unavailable suddenly are available those last couple days. And while the argument can be made that passed up opportunities are as regrettable as missed future ones, I believe the quality of players available near the end, tend to be higher than those that go in the early stages. Like right now.
I think that if we were to get Dalembert then it would help us out a lot on the defensive end and even if he doesn't pan out then he's an expiring. I think that we should trade Brooks, Hill, and Jefferies for Dalembert and their 2011 1st round draft pick. Though I'd rather put our assets together and go after Nene. But if Morey likes it then I do too.
