Thought I would share 2 Earnhardt stories shared by Dr. Jerry Punch (who does NASCAR commentating and numerous other sports for ESPN) on local radio yesterday:
    1. Dr. Punch was working a college football game in Texas when Dale saw him on TV. Carolina was getting hit by a hard snow (where both Dale & Dr. Punch lived) and Dale called Dr. Punchs wife who was 8 months pregnanat to confirm she was a thome. he then told her that he had 3 of his employeeds driving to their house (which is isolated in the mountains) in a flat bed truck with a 4x4 truck in tow for her to use. He also left one of his employees to watch over her until Dr. Jerry got home.

    2. Dale was signing autographs (sorry can't remember where) and he needed to leave because he had to get to NASCAR qualifying. Dale felt bad because so many people showed up to see him and didn't get an autograph so he decided to walk out through the crowd. As he was walking he saw a young lady bent over having trouble catching her breath it appeared. Dale approached her to see if she was OK and found out she was pregnanat but not in labor, but just having pains. Her husband was a huge Earnhardt fan but he had to work but she wanted to get an autograph for him. Dale gave her the hat he was wearing plus the jacket he had on, which just happened to be the jacket he was given for winning the Daytona 500. He then suggested if it was a boy that Dale or Ralph would be good names!

Sorry I thought they were great stories and wanted to share. Hopefully I did them justice by writing them.

    #3 forever!!!

Although I am not a fan of NASCAR, I had heard the name of Dale Earnhardt before his passing on Sunday. After spending time reading about Earnhardt, I believe that the right thing to do would be to retire his # 3 car. It seems that the racing team in charge of the # 3 car would like to continue to use it with a new driver.

There is also a petition to retire the # 3 car: http://www.PetitionOnline.com/DaleE3/petition.html

Did anyone notice the #3 "The Edge" from U2 was wearing at the grammies? I wonder if it was for Dale?

i really don't understand why this practice is acceptable. it's not only extremely dangerous but it's unsportsmanlike. if michael johnson did this to maurice green it would be frowned upon. why should it be different just because the participants are in vehicles?
