Perhaps "God, slow down!!" would be a more appropriate phrase, but I suppose it's a little late for that... Tough brake for Earnhardt, though... ------------------ If you don't eat your meat, you can't have any pudding!!
I've never watched Nascar, but everyone probably knows who Dale Earnhardt was. RIP Dale. ------------------
My heart goes out to his family -- the man is a legend. Not the time to talk about it, but it's amazing to me to think of a sport where on any given "game" you may not come out alive. Basketball, baseball, etc. you screw up and it's not that big of a deal... race car driving -- any mistake by anybody could result in deaths. Very Scary. Rest in peace Dale. ------------------ NOTHING BUT .NET CLUTCHCITY.NET
A notable part about this story was he died protecting the 2 cars in front of him. 1 car was his son and the other car he was an owner of. http://espn.go.com/rpm/wc/2001/0218/1094067.html "What Dale Earnhardt did in those final laps is what a father would do for a son, who was running right in front of him, or a brother would do for a brother. And Michael Waltrip was like a little brother he never had. He stayed in the third spot and ran a 180 mph screen. He kept Marlin and Schrader, and the others who didn't have a chance coming down the stretch, behind him so that his son and his friend could have an opportunity to win. It was a very unselfish move and one that many of us who have known him for years understood." I never was a fan of nascar but if you knew sports, you knew about Dale Earnhardt. Probably the most recognizable names in racing has passed. Rest In Peace ------------------
this wreck doesn't look like its that violent...especially compared to other wrecks of that past that aren't fatal...this is so so sad... ------------------
The other crashes that look much worse absorb energy.(you may have seen one of the cars flying through the air.) Dale's crash is the worst kind by hitting the wall head on. Even with his helmet, the 180 m.p.h. to sudden stop made the base of his skull fracture by sheer force. What can you say? ..I wish Sunday could have started all over. ------------------ Sometimes you gotta do the next best thing!
I still am in schock. I really like Dale Earnhardt, my favorite of all time. He was a great person. I cant believe something so bad has happened, this guy was the Jordan of racing. RIP Dale. Best ever. ------------------ The next time I have meat and mashed potatoes, I think I'll put a very large blob of potatoes on my plate with just a little piece of meat. And if someone asks me why i didn't get more meat, ill just say, "Oh, you mean this?" and pull out a big piece of meat from inside the blob of potatoes, where ive hidden it. Good magic trick, huh?
Guys this hits very close to my heart. I am a NASCAR and Eqrnhardt fan. I was coming off one of my worst weeks ever with a close friend and business associate passing away Monday evening and after a week of grieving and an emotional ceremony on Saturday I felt so much better finally relaxing Sunday afternoon to watch the race. Someone else mentioned it but Dale has always been known as a selfish SOB, someone who would foresake anything for winning (wrecking others, pushing the rules as far as possible) but for the first time in his career he became a blocker for his son and his buddy and driver Michael Waltrip. What a great way to go out though, doing what he loved, protecting his son and buddy and at the track he so dearly loved. Although it is tough to say it was almost poetic. The man was a legend and my heart and prayers go out to him, his family, his friends, his fans and his company. #3 forever!!! Now I must go grieve some more.
Completley ironic to the style of racing that made him what he is/was. It was obvious that he was out there screening off other drivers from shooting the gap and overtaking his son and his buddy. I too didn't think that much of the wreck. After the race, I had to leave and turned off the TV as Jr. was getting out of his car. When I turned on Sportcenter last night, my jaw dropped. I and NASCAR fans everywhere will miss seeing the #3. ------------------ In the end there will be no judges...only witnesses to my greatness.
