You're right... it is your opinion.

Of course, I was advocating for the Rockets to try to get Ron Artest... knowing full well that he was even more of a head-case than Manny ever will be.

After watching "good character" guys like Wesley and DA suck it up, and our team in last place, I'm pretty sure a lot of the Artest haters would soon forget about his discretions after you see the impact he could have on that team.

That's also in-line with what Richard Justice wrote today:

    http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/justice/3510783.html

"The Astros didn't dump Roger Clemens because they're putting together a blockbuster deal. Yes, they saved around $20 million by not offering him arbitration. No, they don't intend to spend it elsewhere."

Which is a damn shame. The team did need an answer from Roger sooner than he was willing to give it. But why did they need that answer sooner? To bring in another $20M player? Or to have enough time to sign or trade for a cheap replacement for Roger? I think it's the latter.

You and... well, nobody else who knows anything about up-the-middle defense. Bogar's defense was his strength and people said as much, but that doesn't mean he is Everett's equal--because he wasn't.

I saw Ozzie Smith boot some routine plays back in the day, so I guess that means the wizard wasn't all that special, either. (And no, I'm not comparing the two--just taking your argument to its logical end.)

I actually *won't* miss Everett too much if the Astros in moving him improve their overall lineup without turning us into a defensive nightmare. But it's just not accurate to say that Everett is another Bogar--because he's not.

    WHATTTT??????

We didn't offer him arbritration as a cost-cutting measure? You've got to be joking.

I really don't like the sound of what is being said by baseball writers and by Purpura at the moment.

Has anyone heard Dalati today? Has he elaborated on his comment from yesterday? Are we still working on something big?

If we're not using Roger's money for other big FA's, I might start questioning McLane.

    sigh. get us a bat.

Wouldn't be shocked though, didn't expect him to automatically spend 18 more each year after giving it to Roger

Why are you guys so surprised? This is uncle Drayton we are talking about. El cheapo grande. This man has no business owning the Astros.

Here comes the drayton bashing... Look I really hope this won't turn out like what Justice and Olney are describing but the idea that Drayton doesn't deserve to own a team is preposterous. The Astros are always in contention for the playoffs, they just got to a world series, and have been one of the most consistent teams in baseball.

Now the guy who owns the pirates, the guy who used to own the devil rays, etc.. shouldnt own a team but Drayton has done a solid job over these many years.

Since the media's never been wrong, I guess we can go ahead and write off next season.

It really was odd seeing Clemens in that Yankees uniform last year.

Looks like another FA the Astros are gonna miss out on....that would be quite interesting if he wound up with the Reds.

The Reds had discussions with Matt Morris' agent, Barry Axelrod, yesterday.
"We had a lengthy meeting," GM Dan O'Brien said. "It's still in the preliminary stage." The Reds have the money for Morris after making the Sean Casey trade, but San Francisco and Texas appear to be more likely destinations for the right-hander. Dec. 8 - 3:14 pm et

Though he would be WRONG, Drayton would be perfectly justified in not upgrading the team.

I defend him more than I rant against Drayton, but I would be really disappointed if they don't get a bat.

Well...if the Stros do not make any moves, they will be a pathetic offensive team....how many times were we shut out last year?

Do you guys honestly just want them to sign ANYBODY, so they can say they signed someboy? I mean... Matt Morris??? C'mon... the only reason he'd sign with us is so that Mike Lamb stops hitting 800 foot bombs off him every single time he faces him.

Lamb's ownage of Morris is one of the most impressive things in baseball right now... Matty might as well bean him everytime he comes up there.

That being said, we have other needs... BATS!
