I've heard Purpura say that he's not totally against going into the 2006 season with the current group of players...with the expectation that the young players will "improve on last year's numbers". Frankly, the fact that the Stros were shut out more times than ever last season screams for the need of a big run producer, which is not likely to happen. I know Ausmus is as steady as they come behind the plate, but I'm a little disappointed that the Astros are not interested in Molina. I'm not sure I can handle another season of waiting for Berkman and Ensberg to carry the team with occasional solo HR from Lane. But who knows. It does seem that relief pitching is highly coveted this year. Maybe we can get a good hitter. Are there any guys out there that are available? I know Abreu and Manny and Bradley have been mentioned. What about Jacque Jones or Torri Hunter?

I'm assuming the Astros are not interested in Molina, because all we hear on their current activity is that they are very close to a contract agreement with Ausmus.

Most of those guys are either either overpaid or over the hill.

    It all makes sense now...

Red Sox let renteria go so that they can pull the trigger on a Manny for Everett and Lidge deal!!!!!
