i would absolutely love having cabrera around. give him a long-term deal to keep him around a while, too...see if he'll give up bigger dollars for a longer term, guaranteed.

What a way to come back down to reality. I feel like I just finished slipping the condom on and she just walked out on me.

    Hope springs eternal!

D-Train ain't going nowhere. He's one of those very, very few pitchers that can bump your attendance up by 10,000 when he pitches.

i could careless what giradi says about cabrera. with the marlins...EVERYONE is availabe, at all times. it's always been that way. you offer them some really good prospects, they'll trade ANYONE, and they have. if we give up a couple of top prospects and say a major league starter, cabrera could be had.

If they sign Manny, I wonder how much Clemens will ask for a 1-year?

The point of the Marlins dumping players is to get rid of high priced players for young talented cheap players. A player doesn't get more talented, young, and cheap than Cabrera.

FYI...just saw Angels declined salary arbitration to Bengie Molina. Molina + a big OF bat would certainly upgrade our club offensively.

scrap would have his hands full trying to decide who would be the ace of the club considering all of them are.

This is ridiculous. Manny Ramirez? First of all, the guy can't field ANYWHERE. His best position by far is the DH, which doesn't exist in Houston. Also, did everyone conveniently forget that the guy was released by the Sox a year back, and no one picked him up? The guy's in his 30s making close to twenty mil a year. If the Astros offer the Sox a bag of baseballs for Manny and $10 mil, the Red Sox would jump on it. There's on reason why any prospect, much less a starter/top reliever, should be discussed here with Manny.

Willis is also off-limits for the Astros, because he's ridiculously cheap. The guy's been in the league for what, 2 years? That means he's 4 years away from FA. Even if he continues his all-star level pitching, he's only going to average around $5-6 mil the next few years in arbitration. Any team who trades away that for something less than a King's ransom is nuts.

If the Astros are going to trade for someone, he'll have to be (A)young, and (B)about to start making big money. (A) is necessary because the Astros should be building for the long term, especially since Clemens is unlikely to be here. (B) is necessary for teams to be willing to trade the player. Otherwise, who wants to part with cheap talent? That's like asking this board whether the Astros should trade away the likes of Ensberg, Taveras, or Lidge for lesser players.

What's the good of that rotatation if we are going to get shutout by the other team and not score any runs. Imagine how many wins Roger would have had if we didn't get shutout so many times last year. We need to get some damn offense to go along with any good pitching we have or are about to get.

First off, Manny was never released by the Red Sox. He was put on waivers, as is almost every player in baseball every year. Many of the more expensive players clear waivers every year. If someone claims them, it just means the Red Sox pull him off waivers and can work out a trade or keep the guy. Reading anything into the waiver process is a waste of time.

Second, Manny is one of the best hitters in all of baseball, and might be the single best RBI guy in the league. He's fine in LF, given that we're playing anyone from Berkman to Lamb to Burke out there - he's no worse than any of those guys.

Any trade the Red Sox do for Manny will involve major prospects or players. The various deals discussed - Manny for Abreu, Manny for top prospects last July, etc - all have signifcant talent going to Boston for Manny. The Red Sox won't trade him for any less, and rightfully so.
