LOL he's mad because the Orioles haven't done anything to strengthen the team. I don't think he'd like the Astros off-season much either. :p

Perhaps he should have thought of that before signing with a team in the same divsion as both the Red Sox and Yankees. Did he actually expect to make the playoffs in Baltimore?

That said, what a phenomenal addition that would be!

Thanks for clearing this up. Few players would help the Stros more than MR. He is a better LF than Berkman, and Berkman can stay healthier and be more effective at 1B full time. MR and Berkman could very well do for the Stros line up what MR and Ortiz have done to Boston's. The Stros would go from a below average NL offensive club to one of the best NL offensive clubs if they could pull this off. It actually would help the defense too, as MR is a better LF than Berkman and Berkman is a better 1B than Lamb.

Something like Lidge, Bags and a prospect/Burke/or Taveras would be sweet. Boston can handle Bags salary for an extra prospect/Burke or Taveras and it takes the sting in Houston for taking MR's contract.

A move I would really like. He still has power and would definitely boost our infield offense. Plus he's desperate so we don't have to pay him too much or at worst give him an incentive laden contract. I'm sure some team could use a top notch defensive shortstop in Adam Everett and plus he's really cheap so we might be able to get some solid prospects for him.

Berkman's an awful left fielder but Manny will definitely give him a run for his money when it comes to playing left field. Berkman sucks because he's just slow and his arm is average. Manny isn't quick and also has an average arm but he's just confused half the time.

Still if we can get him, that would really make this team great and give us the much needed offense we missed last year.

    4. Whither Nomar Garciaparra?
The Padres nearly signed him as a second baseman Thursday, until they were deterred by people who understand that his arm action does not translate well to second base. Toronto, Pittsburgh and five other teams want him. A sleeper is Houston, where he would play left. Nomar might come back and hit .320 with 25 homers and 50 doubles.

There is no way in hell the Astros are going to trade for Manny. If you guys believe that would you give me some of that stuff yall are smoking. If Nomar comes here where is he going to play? I have heard too many stories of him being a bad guy in the clubhouse anyway. Then again he will be on the dl 3/4ths of the year and won't be seen anyway.

Actually on the contrary there were stories all over the place about how he was a standup guy. Its only when Boston tried to trade him and then have that blow up in their face when Nomar got kind of upset. Considering, it was clear Boston had other plans, Nomar did something most others would do and wanted out.

As for him being on the dl, its somewhat of a moot issue if its an incentive laden contract. Plus Bruntlett will give you more offense than everett so should nomar go out bruntlett could do a solid job filling in.

no....and the funny thing is that supposedly, he doesnt have the range or athleticism to play SS and would be targeted by most as a 3B...that being said, I'd take him to play left or SS

What do you guys think about Lopez's blog? BS? Which high-priced OF could it be that we would take on? Let's see....of all the high-priced OF I can think of (Bonds/Sheffield/Griffey/Vlad/Manny/Abreu/An Jones) the only ones that would be on the market would be Griffey, Abreu and Manny. It wouldn't be Dunn because he isn't paid much. There's no way we'd deal for Griffey.....so that leaves Abreu and Manny. Both of those teams are hungry for a closer and are looking to move those guys if the deal is right.

For the Drayton bashers...You do realize that this years payroll is already at a projected $85 million? Oh yeah...it ain't your freaking money either.

I like the idea of going after Kevin Mench if if only costs a reliever. He's a good, young, cheap bat that could be around for a while. If Purp pulls that one off, then it's a great move. You get a power bat that's still making $350K and is a good corner outfielder.

He won't be making $350K next season, he's arbitration elgible and will get a sizable raise.

I just saw that elsewhere. While he would be getting a raise, would it be in the area of what Abreu or Dunn will be making? I'm not saying he's that kind of player, but he would definitely be cheaper.

Wanna get this shot out now, because you guys know how much I love Richard Justice.

But I want everyone to remember that Justice's article yesterday implied the Astros have NOTHING in the works. Nothing of any consequence.

The next day Lopez has his blog.

We'll see. Just throwing it out...just in case.

Here's Lopez's reply to all of the banter in response to his blog....

Geesh. All I said is I have an educated hunch. I've been reading the smoke signals emanating from Union Station. It appears a Lidge deal is in the works ... that's what it seems like to me, that is. Don't get ahead of yourselves. Give it time.
