I’m not super excited to see the kid back up with the big leagues… while also now realizing my mistake from predraft that the G League sucks.
He looks like a much better PG than KPJ......... Which means, that as I said earlier, eventually it will be Green vs KPJ on whom to keep. DD
Depends on contract negotiations to me. KPJ isn't exactly playing himself into a max contract, so if the price is right I'd be fine with him as a 6th man. Of course if trades are available for more long term value I'd always lean that way, and maybe a team friendly contract also facilitates that.
KPJ is better than Green - and if they both keep developing will be the better player when that decision is made..... DD
Difference is Green stays on a rookie contract for another 3-4 years. KPJ another 1-2. So it's up to Tilman Fertitta's sterling decision making.
Green is two years younger than Porter. If Green isn’t better than Porter in two seasons, then Stone blew the #2 pick in the draft.
I dunno, they could both be good players, remember KPJ's issues dropped him way down compared to his talent......and rightfully so......now if those issues persist.....doesn't matter he will be gone, but if he matures, he is a very good 2 way player that is also left handed, and his frame is much stronger than Green's........ If mental attitudes are equal, and work ethic similar - KPJ will be the better 2 way player...... DD
KPJ is doing great. I know this is a hype train, but Nix hasn’t showed anything in the NBA yet. We’ve seen from Green how the G-League is not a predictor of NBA success. I won’t to see Nix and hope he gets a shot at backup pg if Gordan gets traded. I’d love to see a guard rotation of KPJ, Green, Jaygup, Nix the rest of the year and that will tell us what we need to know before the draft.
That is a good point.....what do you do with JGup who seems to be more of a safe PG, a guy who will protect the ball and play smart, but won't really set guys up much...... Right now, it looks like this for the future to me. Starting PG - Nix Backup PG - Jgup And a battle for SG starter, unless KPJ can slide to the SF....but only if he is REALLY 6'6" or more....if he is really 6'4" ...then nope. DD
No. Wow! Jalen Green went top 2! Kevin Porter would be a top 5 pick! Daishen Nix would be a top 10 pick! Alperen is Jokic! Garuba is Draymond! We are loaded! Rafael Stone the GOAT GM!
Was Nix the #1 HS player in the nation….nope. KpJ and Green are sooooo much better that this is a waste of the thread. Happy to see we have a decent minor league player, but that doesn’t make him the next MJ.
He was a 5 star recruit and considered one of the best PG's in the country.....he skipped college to play on the Gleague ignite.....but got fat....and didn't have a great year making him undrafted... DD
KPJ starting PG, Nix backup Pg Green starting SG, Jaygup starting SG By the way I would trade Green and our 2nd FRP for Ivey.
I’ve researched him. He was a top twenty player. Very good passer, subpar defender. Problem I have with him is that prior to this outburst, he cas a career average of 10 points a game. He only averaged 11 points per game in high school. That’s pathetic! His 3 point percentage in high school (3 years ago) was a wopping 21% (only 41% fg). Now let’s take a look at Ben Simmons who everyone hates cause of his shooting. He still shoots better 3’s and fg % and is an elite passer and defender. He’s also not out of shape. There’s a reason Nix wasn’t drafted. If he gets in top shape and works on his shot, maybe someday he could be the next poor man’s Deron Williams….but that’s a ways off. He’s certainly improving and seems to have the vision, so there’s hope.
Look at the actual figures though. JG’s rookie deal is above MLE. Right now KPJ is not getting even an MLE deal on the open market. If Rockets get a an extension done in the off-season at ~10M per or even less, KPJ’s deal will be better value than year 3 and 4 of Green’s rookie deal.
All these comments about the G-League being trash. Josh Christopher went down and came back up a better player. KJ Martin and KPJ went down last year and came back better players, but KPJ struggled being a full time PG earlier this season. Nix was actually not a good player last year as an 18 year old in this same league after being a 5 star top 20 ranked HS player, but is dominating this year. Nix is having a more dominant statistical season than Jalen Green or KPJ had last year. More points, more rebounds, more assists, less turnovers, more steals, better fg%, and better 3pt fg%. He also gets to the free throw line more. Being optimistic about his future isn’t as far fetched as some of you think. 19 years old Daishen Nix is more dominant facing the same level of competition as 20 years old KPJ. 19 years old Nix (19 games) PPG: 25.6 Rebounds: 6.6 Assists: 7.6 Steals:2.8 Turnovers: 3.4 FG%: .496 3FG%: .391 TS%: .605 PER: 25.4 https://www.basketball-reference.com/gleague/players/n/nixda01d.html 20 years old KPJ (15 games) PPG: 24.1 Rebounds: 6.4 Assists: 7.3 Steals: 1.6 Turnovers: 4.7 FG%: .448 3FG%: .320 TS%: .582 PER: 19.5 https://www.basketball-reference.com/gleague/players/p/porteke01d.html
We know where they were drafted. Nix went undrafted. Kevin went 30th. I don’t know, 2nd round? Former Rocket Mason Jones is averaging 28/9/7. He’d obviously go top 10, right? Miles McBride is averaging 32/11/7. He went in the 2nd round/2021.
