    (1) Two first round losses is hardly "great."

    (2) The Pistons fired a 100-win (over two seasons) coach that took them to the Eastern Conference finals in favor of someone who "might" do a better job. Worked out pretty well for them.

JVG won zero title, Phil Jackson on the other hand has won 9 of them. He indeed only coach the best players, but those players won zero titles before he became the coach. He is not a constructor, he is a finisher.

I love JVG, I think he is an elite coach, but PJ is a better fit based on Rox's situation. To me, it is a nobrainer.

This is so true. Rick Carlisle won 100 games over two seasons and was named the coach of the year in his first season. To say the least, he is as equally good as JVG and he even achieved more than JVG did in these two years. So what, Piston won the world title.

All of this is moot and pointless.

JVG will be the coach next year. So it's a pointless argument.

Personally I'd rather have JVG then Phil, looks like I'll get my way :)

JVG will return, because he has the contract. Otherwise Les would be excited to have PJ. So do the fans!

Looked what JVG has done in last 2 playoffs, hes only proven he's an elite coach, far from great and hero!

Le$ has proven contracts mean nothing to him. It isn't likely, but I hope those discussions with PJackson are going on behind the scenes. This mess with the officials is the perfect excuse to "force a Rudy" on JVG.

Rudy had cancer, he wasn't forced out. Get it straight man...that's a pretty sick thing to write.

I was under the impression that it was a combination of both. Can someone clear this up?

I don't think I could put up with all of his self-important crap. The guy has a real need to be Ram Dass, or Maharishi Mahesh Yogi or one of the other 60's style smoke-and-mirrors religious/philosophical frauds. In otherwords, much of his success requires a cult of personality that is imposible to match in reality. There are some costs for victory that are too high.

There's really no way to clear this up unless your Les or Rudy. The unsaid rumor was that Rudy was going to be forced out because of the team's gradual decline over the years and the cancer issue was a convenient way for Rudy to bow out.

True, but the evidence speaks for itself. Le$ pushed RT off that cliff.

The cancer is probable. But it could also have been a cover story used to ease Rudy out of the organization minus the embarrassment of "fired!" I think it was a little of both.

During Rudy's last season, at the end, there really wasn't any indication that things would be changing anytime soon....It was pretty much the same thing each year (missing the play-offs). A lot of that due to Francis. But also due to Rudy's coaching methods of Francis. So, change was needed after 4-5 years of the same thing.

What evidence? Rudy T was done, exhausted, his family thought he was going to drop dead. He left the game, no one asked him to leave, no one would ever do that- not even "behind the scenes"

The Rockets had just gotten Yao Ming, and he was getting better. The Rockets missed the playoffs because they imploded after Rudy took leave for his illness.

Rudy's a great coach, the Rockets don't suffer from inadequate coaching, they suffer from inadequate players...

Nonsense. He was refreshed and ready to return. He looked good, and his staff had been told they would be back. Le$ pushed. It is as simple as that.

Then why did he nearly die with the lakers, dude, you might not want to admit it, but he looked damn sick during that press conference, the one where he announced his retirment, winning takes energy to ya know.

Actually he looked relieved at the press conference. Like a big weight had been lifted off his shoulders. WHo's to say if that would have happened in Houston. He was very comfortable here. Still as much as I love Rudy it is probably best for him that he is out of coaching.

The Los Angeles press conference? I'd agree he did not look good there.

The Houston press conference? He looked fine, just overwhelmed, and terribly sad. In the days leading up to the firing, he did several interviews, and in all of them looked healthy and happy, filled with excitement at the possibilities for the upcoming season.

Inadequate players that Rudy T brought in and coached...

Rudy was every bit responsible of the Rockets post championship years as during those 2 glorious years. Even though we had CD, Rudy had final say so on player personnel decisions, and again he coached the players he brought in...and the results they brought in fell squarely on him.

That's why the rumor persists that he would have been forced out and the cancer issue was convenient for him to bow out on his own terms.

I don't know...from people I know, they said his family was extremely worried about his health and that he looked really ill...they all wanted him to step down. I don't think he was pushed out, or even nudged. I suggest you get some more empirical evidence before turning rumors into facts.
