That's true regardless of who is our coach.

Well I have to tell you, the last 10 years have been fantastic since we won our championships. I'm sure the fans of Chicago would gladly give back their 6 championships so that they could have been mediocre like the Rox have been. That is a stupid philosophy. Every team that wins a championship has rebuilding. The Bulls were in the playoffs this year and they won championships sooner than the Rox have. So to me your argument sucks.

Like I said, I am not a PJ fan and I hate the Bulls. I'm more playing devils advocate than anything.

I think ESPN and all those other sports channels are hyping this JVG-NBA crap way too much.

JVG will be here next year.

Had to figure edc would come out from hiding after the Rockets got eliminated ;) You're getting too predictable!

It's nice to see the change of tone with everyone though. After arguing my senior status out in the fire gundy thread, people have finally came around :D

Phil has enough $$$ to stay retired for another year instead of tarnishing his image by going to some team that's not already on the cusp. If the Rockets under-perform in next year's playoff, JVG will definitely be on the hot seat with his own lame duck status and PJ lurking in the shadows. Regardless, this conversation is definitely one year too early.

This crap is funny. JVG very much dislikes Phil Jackson. Talk about insult to injury. I'm happy with JVG, plus I'm not sold that Jackson is a better coach. JVG has never had the talent that Jackson has on any of his teams, but he's never missed the playoffs in his entire career. Jackson has got to prove to me that he can lead a team to the promiseland without Jordan or Shaq (the two most dominating players of the last 20 years.)

Garbage. If anything, PJ is just using possible destinations as leverage for a fatter contract with LA.
Even if he were serious, JVG has earned (IMHO) his chance to finish it.

At least we have had hope for a brighter future unlike the bulls who have been at the VERY bottom of the East for the past 8 years or so. At least we have been competing for the playoff with the exception of Steve's migrane season. I'll take that over 8 years of 20 or so win seasons. At least were in it til the end not out of it the first month of the season.

My argument is that PJ is an opportunist/utilitarian who uses a team that is right about to win a title anyways and then as soon as the winning stops he jumps ship. I don't want someone who is going to jump ship. Rudy stayed here through thick and thin and tried to rebuild and I feel did a decent job of it at that especially in the tough Western conference.

I believe JVG can lead these guys to a title, they just need to add a few Young pieces to the veteran mix. We don't need Phillip.

I think becasue the playoffs this year are pretty boring..the rox vs mavs series was the most interesting and exciting one on and off court..

Might as well say the same thing about Larry Brown.

IMO Jeff Van Gundy is not out of the woods yet. Now that the referees association is on his back. They may prove more difficult to shake than Sterns, in fact, Sterns may have backed off knowing that they were hot on JVG's heels and he decided to let them be the bad guys. Talk about a conspiracy brewing! I don't know how much true power they have, but Jesus they could make a coach's life miserable in no time if they decide to prove how much influence they have on a game. This will play out somehow, we'll see.

Jeff Van Gundy *sarcastic*: Oooh, the NBA Referees Association is mad at me... I'm so scared! Oooooh, the NBA Referees Association ... Uh oh...
NBA Referee: Stop it, Van Gundy, stop pretending!
Jeff Van Gundy: The NBA Referees Association is coming after me... Oh, don't let the NBA Referees Association after me... Oh, the NBA Referees Association is coming after me... No, they're so big and strong... Protect me from the NBA Referees Association ! The NBA Referees Association !
    Stern: Van Gundy, Stop it!!!

JVG would have won some rings if he was coaching the teams Phil has. Case closed, Phil was a product of the players he coached.

Too bad that can't be proven. I don't believe that is the case.

Prove to me that Phil will win a championship with the Rockets.

    You can't.

Going strictly by the rulebook, travelling could be called on every single play. The refs could make the points scored by a team in the peach basket era hold up if they so desired...

The distance from nine to ten is much less than the distance from zero to one.
