I am going to preface this by saying, I have NEVER been a PJ fan, at all, and I am totally behind JVG especially after this year. I love the guy and will always be a fan from now on. Here comes the but. edc's post hits the nail on the head. How do you pass up on PJ? No matter if every situation he has been in has been hand picked or whatever, THE DUDE HAS WON. Plain and simple. He knows how to run a basketball team as well as anyone in history. I would HATE to see JVG go especially in a situation like this but if we have the chance to get PJ I think we have to do it. We dont have the inner turmoil that Showtime 2 had so we could win for a VERY LONG TIME!!!! We could seriously make a run similar to the Celtics where we win for 10+ years. PJ is the kind of coach that could make it happen.

It's rummored that Phil Jackson is going to ask for $10 million per season. So Les would have to pay $10 million plus $4 million on top of that for JVG if he fires him.

No way this happens unless Van Gundy steps down.

Agreed whole-heartedly. If PJ comes here we would immediately be considered an elite team. No matter if he hand picks everything, he WINS. And what does any team's fans want their team to do? WIN and do a lot of it. Hell it would feel good to be back on that championship level again. Phil Jackson would do just that.

You guys may not like him or approve of his pickiness but he is a Proven Championship coach. That is a fact and I don't know about you guys but I want a Championship in Houston. Not only that but I want people to stop looking at Tmac as a loser. I want Yao to have the experience of working with PJ because PJ coached Shaq to multiple championships. It can't do Yao anything but make him better.

And lastly, and probably most importantly, we can stick it to the Orlando media!!

Please do NOT bring that arrogant, pipe smoking, zen practicing, insent smelling, yoga prick here!!! I disliked JVG at first b/c of his stubborness/unwilligness to use the strengths of his players but have gained respect for what he did this season. I have always HATED Phil and his let me take over a team once it is on the cusp of winning it all so i can get all the credit. Don't bring that dude here, please!!!

I'm happy with JVG and I think he will be around for a few years, unlike Phill that could leave us HIGH AND DRY after a year or so if he wants.. I learned my leason with Steve, you gonna want the best players on team to win even if it means giving up people you like and same goes for coaches.. it's the nature of the beast, but I think JVG is doing a good job so far.. I say keep JVG, but we need to get this REF bull**** taken care of...

Phil Jackson had great teams with two great players and a bunch of very solid players that perfectly complimented them.

Houston has Yao and McGrady, but they are both not in their prime COLLECTIVELY, as a COMBO (not individually speaking). How many years did Shaq and Kobe lose together until they finally won it all?

I like PJ as a coach, but sometimes he creates problems with his star players, and we don't want a disgruntled McGrady or Yao in Houston. Phil Jackson is just not an easy guy to deal with, he wants total control over a team, he won't settle for anything less.

Who cares if we wants total control over a team? It isnt like his track record sucks. PJ makes his team into the Tiger Woods of basketball. They are picked to win the championship every year and you are surprised when they don't. I'll take those kind of odds.

He didn't put those teams together, meaning the Bulls and Lakers.

He wouldnt put our team together. Basically I'm saying, who cares? Dude wins. How can any of you deny that PJ has won a ton and JVG has won ****? I'm not saying that JVG couldnt win because he very wel may be the guy. If I had my choice, I would want PJ. That doesnt mean that I will be upset when JVG stays. He is a good coach and has won the fans and players hearts. I always want the best for my teams. As much as I hate to admit it, PJ is the best, not only currently but one of the top 2 or 3 in history. He has won a whole freaking lot. It makes my mouth water to think about him running the show for the next however many years.

I really look forward to Phil getting a job somewhere else so we can put an end to these dead horse beatings.

As long as JVG wants to stay, is effective and what happened this does not affect the Rockets (e.g., officiating, being targted by the league)--I would not be for this move. For sure JVG should get next year and hopefully there will be no lagging effects from this.

But if JVG needed to step down (for his own or Rocket reasons), Phil J would obviously be the best choice. How many multiple championship coaches who are younger than 70 are out there. He has taken the car with the right equipment many times, fine tuned it a little, and drove it across the finish line--the samne as our situation if it comes to it. I don't care if you guys don't like him, the best guy to give the Rockets a chance at multiple titles should be the pick. If that guy ain't JVG, it is Phil J.

He may win but it's after the team is on the verge of breaking through, he has never developed a team from scratch and turn it into a champion. He also tends to leave his former teams on bad terms and 100% of the time leaves them bound for the lottery for years to come. The guy is a utilitarian. He uses you and then leaves you when the going gets tough. The Bulls have been horrible since he bailed after Jordan left in '97 or '98 whichever, and the Lakers are going to be horrible for as long. I don't want the Rockets to be a 20 win team for 6-8 seasons after they win 1 or 2 championships. JVG can bring us championships without the years and years of 20 win seasons.

Totally agree. By the way what did PJ do with what some called the "greatest collection of talent" Lakers last year? Or what did he do with the Bulls when Jordan retired the first time? I don't think he won anything with out a superstar "peaking".

If it came down to real coaches, I would rather have Larry Brown, Jerry Sloan or Greg Poppovich. These guys have shown they can choice over the course of the years.

It took me a while to like JVG coaching the Rockets but it's quite obvious the guy cares about his team, good or bad. The fact that he took us to 50+ wins this year basically with a team of players on the verge of retirement really shows the kind of positive influence he has on players. With JVG, you know what you're getting. And that's hard work, brilliant coaching, TEAMwork, No drama, and a whole lot of fun. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Keep JVG.

In defense of PJ,the post M.J. period wasn't going to be pretty,no matter how you slice it.The Bulls were going to hurt badly for quite awhile, before getting better.Same with the Lakers.Almost always when you have a dynasty,it's going to be brutal for awhile.(There are a few exceptions)I guess when that window is open, teams do a little more to make sure they stay on the top,and it tends to leave the cupboard bare.I'm sure Phil has some culpability here, but I would still take him in a heartbeat,if Jeff isn't here.
