I had a very hard time not immediately going to my Laker Hater mode and blaming Kobe for this.

After forcing myself to be rational, I think the following:

Bryant was using his extended leg as a tool to hold off the defender. The league was right to outlaw this, and generally offensive moves like this should be whistled an offensive foul. However, the fact that a guy gets away with mild offensive fouls is not cause to play dirty on him.

Jones didn't deliberately intend to hurt Bryant. However, he did intend to get into his legs to highlight the leg kick. Many dangerous dirty plays could also be described as "didn't intend to hurt him, just to X". It's no excuse. It's still dirty. He should be suspended.

Think it should've been a foul. ATL got some home cooking on that one

I really don't wish injury on anybody....but as long as it is just a sprained ankle, i'm okay with celebrating the fact that Kobe will cost the Lakers a 6th or 7th seed in the playoffs and allow the Rockets to have a more favorable matchup in the playoffs.

Kobe going down makes Rockets fans feel like this.....

And makes Lakers fans feel like this.....

This is only true if the player initiates the contact with his leg to create space.. Jones was the one that created the contact. This happened to me playing volleyball in college when a guy went under the net on me, we got the point and I fractured my right ankle in 5 places.

They say it all the time in the NBA, shooters need more protection. You shouldn't be able to just get right up under them like that, you rarely see it because most defenders are respectful enough to stay away from the feet. (Battier)

IF that's not a dirty play, then Bruce Bowen is not a dirty player.

HOW does the ref not call a foul?

Looked fine to me, if Kobe is fading off to his right, then I expect the defense to follow him, which is what he did. Now if he undercut him, which he did not, because if he did Kobe's body would have rotated like a spinning wheel from the force. Clearly you can see Kobe fade to his right then come straight down on his ankle. Now you can also clearly see him kick his left foot out as if trying to get a foul wah wah but got a twisted ankle instead. Lakers suck, Kobe sucks, Rockets rule!

He sprained his ankle because he landed on Dahntay Jones' foot. And Kobe doesn't kick out his left, I don't know what you're looking at.

How much difference would it make if Kobe had high-tops? Maybe out for only 2 days as opposed to indefinitely?

I'm just not seeing what the fuss is about. Bryant was fading away and to the right and Jones was closing the distance to make the shot hard without fouling. I don't think the play was dirty; I don't even think it was a foul. It was simply unfortunate that Bryant rolled his ankle.

well..........he didn't have to kick out his right leg and uses both feet to land

rather than relying just on one foot only

Close call. Hard to say from someone who essentially cries wolf a lot. He's no stranger to feigning injury.

The same Kobe who knee'd Battier and elbowed Artest in the throat, getting Artest kicked out of a playoff game? Pardon my failure to sympathize with this guy.

There's nothing wrong with being dirty (or "old school" as he likes to put it), but if you dish it out, you gotta take it too. And that means not going on twitter and acting like a diva b****. #countonkobe

I'm not seeing a dirty play there just a defensive player closing the distance and Kobe flailing awkwardly trying to draw a foul.
