"Doesnt even contest" How bout cuz if u get within 3 feet of kobe shooting or jump to contest, its an automatic foul and he didnt wanna foul kome in dat situation My nga Dantay played dat beautifully, and its kome fault for kickin his leg out to try ta make contact, dats a b**** move. Also, **** Kome.
Kobe faded away so Dahntay Jones leaned in for the block. Kobe's leg kicked out a little bit. Jones momentum took him towards Kobe because he was trying to contest the game tying shot. Are some people saying that you shouldn't be able to contest fadeaways?
Also, lol @ 31 pts off 33 shots, w 5 turnovers Kome gotsta have da records for most games wit more shots than pts lmao
Unfortunately, don't think this will ultimately have any effect on the playoff race... next 4 games: Fri, Mar 15 @ Pacers 4:00 PM (PT) Sun, Mar 17 vs. Kings 6:30 PM (PT) Mon, Mar 18 @ Suns 7:00 PM (PT) Fri, Mar 22 vs. Wizards 7:30 PM (PT) They were prob gonna lose the Pacers game with the rapist, and they should be able to handle the other games without the rapist. After that, they don't play again until Monday the 25th @ GSW, which would be a full 12 nights after the injury. Assuming there was heavy embellishment of the severity of the injury, the rapist should be ready to go by the 25th.
Intent. A small word but a word that has to be understood and applied to the rules. Does anybody remember this from a few years ago? <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/i3DZNIpujeo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> There are better videos on youtube which specifically show the Kobe elbows when he was coming down from his jump shot but the soundtracks on them are idiotic so I didn't post them. Anyways, several years ago, he went through a stretch where he popped about 3 or 4 different defenders right in the face with that elbow coming down off the jump shot. Kobe kept claiming it wasn't intentional, that he was just coming down off his jump shot but that the defenders had crowded into his landing space, etc. Well, the bottom line of it was intent. Kobe didn't like being face guarded and he was retaliating to create space. Of course, this plays right into what is happening now with this Dahntay Jones situation. Intent. Kobe's intent was to draw enough blood and get away with it often enough that the defenders had to think about how close they face-guarded him. Thank goodness the league FINALLY did something about it after Kobe drew blood on guys about the fourth time. Intent. Kobe's intent was to hurt the defenders. Can't have that. Remember Karl Malone??? Same thing. Intent. Except in his case the league never dealt with it. They simply let him get by with it. Elbow gash to Isaiah...40 stitches?? Knocking out DRob. The kick to Hakeem's groan. All the while Karl was claiming he was "just playing basketball". Poppycock. Karl flailed his knees and elbows for a career INTENTIONALLY. He injured a lot of players. But he was never disciplined for it. He should have. Now, back to this situation. You can see the intent. And you can read the intent in Dahntay's comments. Kobe does kick out. But it wasn't with the intent of kicking the defender. He was fading and everybody knows when you fade to the side that kick out helps you square for the release. Dahntay wasn't in front of his kick. Dahntay was off to the side. And he simply ran through that play thinking that he was going to take advantage of the new rule that says that if a shooter kicks out to make contact with the defender it is an offensive foul. There is plenty of history of Dahntay playing Kobe to back up the intent. Contrast Dahntay on Kobe with Shane on Kobe. Plenty of history of Shane defending Kobe........very closely. But there is NO HISTORY of Shane ever playing him dirty, trying to injure him. On the contrary, Shane defended him so well that at times Kobe became frustrated and chopped Shane. If I remember right Shane may have been one of the defenders that Kobe face elbowed during that string of elbows a few years ago that Kobe was throwing as he came down from the jumper. So intent does matter. Notice after the league came down on Kobe all those elbows shots stopped. They told him they were gonna call him on them and he magically stopped, after claiming that he was just playing and coming down from his jump shot. Well, after the league said "No", he stopped. Do you think he changed his form on his jumper? Nope. He simply quit slinging his elbows out, which was something that he started doing in retaliation to being face guarded so close. Intent. Dahntay's play on Kobe was as dirty as it gets. He deserved the flagrant and he should miss a game for every game Kobe misses. That should be the rule. When a play is ruled intentionally dirty, like the Artest elbow to Harden a few years back, the offender should miss the same amount of games as the player that they injured...and maybe a few more.
Sorry the video didn't post for some reason. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/i3DZNIpujeo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
It was probably a dirty play by Jones that fortunately for me only hurt Kobe because of an offensive foul. Fortunate, because I don't have to feel sorry for Kobe now. (That and I still expect him to return this week.)
Dis WEEK?!!!! more like NEXT GAME. EL gnomo be right, kobe be da biggest exaggerator, drama queen of all times, and he do it on purpose so he can make da media say "ZOMFG, INJURED MAMBA COMES BACK TO HELP PLAYOFF PUSH AND SCORES 39 PTS ON 47 SHOTS TO SECURE 8TH SEED!!!!! GOAT!!!!!" #FLUGAME
You think Kobe is missing games? I doubt it. He's been faking injuries all year. Crying in fake pain and then coming back and balling ala Paul Pierce.
You seem to forgot what those teams just have done to us. All of them are playing well right now and can win games on any given night.
You lost me in this part of your otherwise good analysis. Are you saying that Jones was trying to draw an offensive foul by trying to make contact with the kick out leg? If so, why was it a dirty play? Intent. Seems like the intent was to draw foul, not to hurt Kobe, just like lots of offensive players (including our own Harden) creating contact to draw foul.
Kobe will still be suited up for the next game. This is just Kobe crying so the league refs will favor the Lakers in their next stretch of games.
The intent was to send Kobe to the floor. There was no reason to run into Kobe's leg. Shot was already released. No way to contest it further. Jones plowed into him and he's trying to use the rule to disguise his intent. Look at all the footage of Jones defending Kobe over the last several years. It's all about knocking him around and trying to get in his head with the threat of physicality. The push in the back, etc. It's all about trying to intimidate Kobe on his shot. Contrast Jones' D to Battier's D. Battier's D is all about giving Kobe different looks, trying to confuse him and keep him off balance mentally not knowing what angle Shane is going to work next, whether Shane is going for the block or simply using his hand to throw in front of Kobe's eyes as he rises to release. Jones' intent was to knock Kobe to the floor so that Kobe will have to think about it happening again the next time he shot the ball. Don't you remember the old school swipe at the legs move we used to pull all the time? Shooter goes up and you duck low and swing your arm down by his feet. I think they outlawed that move at the amateur level. It's the same thing except on the pro level you actually make the "oops" contact. It's the same intent. Throw off the shooter's rhythm, force them to jerk the release so they can look down and avoid getting tripped up. Knock them to the ground once and make them feel the threat is real. It's okay to deke guys the way Shane does. Get up close and invade their space without making any kind of illegal contact. It's not okay to do what Jones did. It was intentional. It is consistent with Jones' history of defending Kobe. His intent was to put Kobe on the floor.
How is that different than Kobe give a pump fake and jumpin up into a player, making contact and taking the defenders legs out from under him? I got my lip split completely open from a play like that cause I kept throwing this cause shot into the third row everythime he went up for a lay up. He pump faked, took my legs out and jumped up into my head... Needless to say, benches and bleachers cleared... Now that's a dirty play.
