Well that is a trick question because of course we will be better not because we have Melo or not but because our stars Harden, CP3, Gordon and Caplea will all play better than what they have to start the season.

So, our success is not predicated on whether we have Melo or not. In short, we would be fine without him.

Correct Melo doesn't make or break our season. We will be fine without him and fine with him. He would make very little net impact on this team. Only way he can help is if he hitting shots while one of the stars is out. Like maybe the Nets or Bulls games. But overall he wouldn't be a factor in the season. That is normally true for 7th/8th dude in your rotation.

When anyone approaching retirement, they go through these 'funk" periods...it is part of life. However for a player retirement is before age 40, whereas for most people with careers it is in the 60 years of age range.. Some people have multiple careers too that end at 60. When your under 40 as a player, you know your skills are diminishing each year that passes by, but your mind is still in the game as a person in their 20s. What Carmelo doesn't realize this is normal for 60 year olds too...we still have the mind of a 20 year old, albeit a bit wiser from life lessons. But our bodies have aged faster than we want. People approaching 60 years old, wonder what is next for them in life....and this is the funk that Carmelo is feeling. He is not ready to say good-by to his career and is fighting the feelings that it is over. He is trying to change his game style to fit in an era of basketball that he was not an ace in...and it gets to you. If you think you are letting down your team because you aren't as great as you use to be, that gets you down too. And then if there family discourse too, it intensifies the funk.

If I would advise Melo, I would suggest he accept the changes and do your best to enjoy the few years you have left in this career. It doesn't matter how old you are, careers end and new ones begin. My spouse and I retired at age 60...we were afraid of a boring lifestyle. It has been totally different from what we feared. Instead, we are more active, we have found other outlets to focus on and our new career as retirees is great. Camelo needs to stop worrying about the end of this career, and just enjoy the game he loves to play as best that he can. He still has plenty to contribute. Maybe he should start mentoring to the newbies and pass along his knowledge and skills to the younger ones. Who knows, that could lead to another career that is as exciting as being an NBA player.

I also would tell Carmelo, "a little bit of something is better than a whole lot of nothing". Don't give up and leave the Rockets, accept your life as it is and soar with what you can play and when. Enjoy the game...and the minutes and wins will come too. JMO

Check out the last 5 games and say that again.

Melo is making the vet min whether he plays great or horrible it shouldnt affect the team performance because if he sucks it should be the other players making more money who is supposed to carry the slack.

You have to ask yourself why are Cp3 and Harden making the max and Melo is only making the vet min if all of them have the same impact on winning or losing.

Melo is supposed to be our bonus, all this BS is about uninformed posters trying to make him the scapegoat when the entire team is playing bad. Is Melo the reason Cp3 is shooting 40% for the season? Cp3 had 28 pts yday, amazingly we won. He had single digits the last 4 games, no surprise we lost the last 4 games duh. Thats what happens when you pay somebody 40M a year, his performance leads to wins or losses.

That's not how basketball works. Anthony was getting starter minutes and being putrid on both ends.

CP3's playmaking and defensive communication alone is wortg 5 times as much as anything Anthony has been putting out there.

If he sucks with starter mins then give him bench mins thats why he is making vet min.

Saying Cp3 is better than Melo...no **** sherlock! Should the guy making 40m be better than the guy making vet min or not? The problem is Cp3 playing like a 40M player, yes or no? 40M player isn't supposed to have below 15 pt games 5 of the last 12. For Cp3 to be worth the 40M we are paying him he should be having a Hardenesque impact every game that hasnt happened every night thats why we are losing.

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed we now have more Melo threads than stupid Trump tweets?

@Codman Any update? Have to figure a decision by Melo or the Rockets would have to happen soon. Longer this drags out the worse it gets for both parties. Either he is back or not right?

I would like to see Carmelo starting with a healthy CP3, Beard, Tucker & Clint, If only for a few games to see If it can work.

I really don't think Mike is willing to relinquish a starting spot to Melo though.

Melo or Tucker at the 3 in 2018 = Jeff B quits again.
