At this point here is what I think will happen: Brooklyn's offer sheet will be reinstated and the rockets will be fined.
Suppose it can't hurt to try. But, since the CBA says he cannot sign with the Nets, one would think Utah (or others) also have a right to complain, if Morey/Nets try to roll-back what happened. Since Morey cancelled the First Right Execution Notice (FREN), he became and RFA again and simultaneously signed directly with the Rockets. For the brief moment of time, Utah was eligible to sign him to an Offer Sheet. Rolling all that back to make Nets Offer Sheet active again seems like it skips over that moment in time Utah could have signed him. Is that a reason for other teams to complain? Teams can reject a contract at will, with full rights to use their own physicians. Hell, Mobley tried for 7 years to sue the Knicks...and failed. Yeah, makes no sense at all to me. Unless Rockets are suspicious DMo had his own exams after the season, and are trying to get them, and want Nets to go on record whether DMo showed anything to them.
But can't Utah complain about that. Since for a brief moment in time, DMo's free agent status was as RFA with Nets ineligible to sign him? Seems other teams can stand firm, and say the Rockets have to void this contract or not.
I assume you mean if he can't play. Downsides then are None for summer cap implications Les has to pay $8.3m for his trouble We waste the 15th spot on the roster
Why would the Rockets be fined though? If they're going to nullify the contract it's cause they found something wrong with the medical...?
Please get this resolved so we can focus on beating the Nets tonight. Maybe he can be there on the bench in street clothes to support the team.
The league office and the nets may feel that Rockets used the rules in such a way to gain an unfair advantage. I could be completely off base and maybe this whole thing is about medical records.
Daryl Morey said talks now involve the NBA in an indication that Motiejunas will not be signed to the contract the sides agreed to on Friday. "We're in active discussions with Donatas' representation, the league office and that's pretty much it," Morey said. Asked the purpose of the talks, Morey said, "A resolution." Morey would not answer any other questions. When asked whether the Rockets were seeking a resolution in which Motiejunas would or not rejoin the Rockets and whether Motiejunas failed his physical, Morey would only repeat his original statement. "We're in active discussions with them and the league office," Morey said. "We're in continuous discussions. I can't really say more. All three parties matter." http://www.chron.com/sports/rockets...ut-Donatas-10790831.php?cmpid=twitter-desktop
Maybe some step was missed when Rockets renegotiated the $35M deal, and Brooklyn complained to the league that DMO should be theirs? Welp
