Meanwhile, the tens of millions in this country and hundreds of millions around the world who are unvaccinated are breeding variants that make it harder and harder to bring Covid under control. Eventually, there may be a variant that the vaccines simply can't prevent from killing an unconscionable percentage of humanity. The same fools who eagerly politicize vaccines for Covid, despite the overwhelming majority having been vaccinated for all sorts of diseases when they were children, may end up seeing their loved ones succumb to the terrible virus. I sincerely hope not. It's bad enough that there have been a litany of non-vaccinated Americans pleading for the vaccine before having the respirator put down their throat in an often vain attempt to save their life. As difficult as it might be to believe, "brainwashed and blind to the truth" is exactly what they are. They have to actively go out of their way to avoid the vast amounts of factual evidence easily acquired, with any effort at all, that proves just how wrong the propaganda is that they are eagerly inhaling from proven discredited sources. The lies they feed upon act as nothing less than an aphrodisiac. Calling what they believe to be bizarre is an understatement, yet a significant minority of Americans believe the dangerous nonsense.
Yes the denial and lack of understanding is very strong. It's also binary thinking. No one claimed that COVID-19 was so lethal that everyone infected would die. Yet their argument is that well if people aren't dropping like flies then it means that it isn't real ignoring the fact that for most things a 1% chance of death is very serious. Consider a Sushi restaurant. If 20% of customers going there got sick with 1% of customers dying it will be damn well certain that the health department will shut it down. I also doubt most people would risk eating there if there was a 1:5 chance of getting sick eating there with a 1:100 chance of death.

I read that article and yes Minnesota (a blue state) is suffering one of it's worse spikes but looking at the NYTimes own map the worse counties are rural counties that voted overwhelmingly red in the last election. This is why in previous years MN is likely also lead in flu cases starting around November.
