My heart goes out to you and your family and all the others dealing with those same things. To worry about affordable healthcare during a pandemic in a country so rich is just not acceptable.

The United States has now surpassed five million confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 160,000 deaths from the virus as tens of millions of Americans file for unemployment, causing experts to debate how the nation should respond.

Neel Kashkari, the president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, says the answer should be a return to mandated lockdowns in every state for up to six weeks in an effort to save both lives and the economy.

"If we aren't willing to take this action, millions more cases with many more deaths are likely before a vaccine might be available," Kashkari wrote in a New York Times op-ed on Friday alongside Dr. Michael Osterholm, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota.

Kashkari says lockdowns were having a positive effect during the spring. The problem, he told NPR's All Things Considered on Sunday, is that "we threw in the towel before the health officials had actually gotten control of the virus."

Giving up too early cost the economy, says Kashkari. What the country needs now, he says, is "a more stringent, uniform lockdown state-by-state" until the virus can be brought under control. "Then we can return to normal economic activity with more confidence."

I plan to vote in person, But have they addressed options if you’re under self quarantine during the election?

The city is also fortunate to have medical leadership with foresight who planned for worst case scenarios.

Bingo...without that leadership, the city would have been sunk.

And it's that mentality that was needed across the country.

It is better to act with foresight than regret with hindsight. (I thought I might have made that up but it makes too much sense...)

I too have a RAGE inside me. My parents, with "pre-existing" conditions, finally retired not too long ago. Instead of being able to enjoy their freedom, they're confined to their home, because the messaging in this state, and across the country is -- let's just keep those people at home, they're not humans! Everyone else, go bananas!!

My aunt (who works in the nursing home) also told me how all of the residents are confined to their rooms and how sad it is, she said a lot of them are losing it from not being able to interact with anybody or walk around, living like prisoners in solitary confinement, or like neglected pets in a cage.

This path was deliberately chosen by the American government.

But have no worries friend, it will all be well soon, our cases are declining... just don't think too much about our testing rates falling off a cliff, and our positivity rate soaring up to 24% in Texas.

I’m so terribly sorry to hear how COVID-19 is affecting your family, and I completely understand your anger. I haven’t had COVID-19 hit close to home, but it pisses me off every day that all Americans aren’t willing to make a short-term sacrifice for the greater good. Our country’s selfish, me-first attitude disgusts and upsets me.

I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.

Everyone knew this was going to happen after Trump took the data out of the CDC’s control, but it doesn’t make it any less infuriating or despicable.

Appreciate it bro, don't feel so sorry for me - we're all going through this as a country.

Yep, our republican led senate is really focused on the COVID-19 crisis... one more reason for a blue wave in November...

This is why stream rolling the filibuster doesn't sound scary.

    Elections would actually have consequences.

Rome is burning. Bridges are collapsing. These ****ers sit on their asses while playing stocks with no connection to Main Street.
