There's been political attachment to fully privatize the mail service for at least 20 years. The issue is that voters love having Post Offices in the middle of BFE, so the Red State politicians are in an ideological quandry to starve the **** out of it, wag their fingers at them for "inefficiencies", while supporting its zombifying state of decay.

Mouth breathers snort when they hear their betters claiming they "vote against their interests". This is one of them. If you like chatting up Postman bob while sitting outside your porchstep at the boonies, have some decency to actually pay for an entire office where 2 or 3 people would normally do inside a city.

Don't let the city folk and rich states pay for you with their tax money. Do it yourself. Vote with your own conscience.

So no, we aint gunna fund the Post Office. We aint gonna build the IRS so that it's easier to file taxes or get decent customer support either.

We're just going to pretend it can work with the same amount of money it was allocated decades ago, then turn around and say they're The Example of government bloat when it's cracks start to tear down American lives.

It's not the bureaucrats fault, rather pure political spite and greed that seems to get them re-elected time after time.

I don't know. Cruise ship is essential to many pockets. US postal service? Not so essential.

Texas has done more tests per capita than California, and has fewer deaths per capita than California. And yet the liberal media is hyping up California!

Well you have to realize you have almost ten times as many homeless people in California and much lower expectations in general. To not be full on Wuhan crisis is quite surprising.

strictly speaking, what does this crisis have to do with the postal service? More people are ordering online so packages should be way higher.

I'm all for letting the cruise lines fail, mostly because they avoid taxes and pay slave wages.

I'm for letting most big business fail and file for bankruptcy. But anyhow...

Brennan said that USPS now expects a $13 billion revenue loss tied “directly to COVID-19” this fiscal year.

The board has asked for $25 billion in emergency appropriations, an additional $25 billion line of credit from the Treasury Department and yet another $25 billion for “shovel-ready” projects to modernize the agency’s aging vehicle fleet and facilities.

While the Postal Service received $10 billion in additional borrowing authority under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act,

So they are "projecting a 13 billion loss, got 10 billion in aid and were asking for 75. The business model clearly not working and it doesn;t have much to do with COVID-19

Yes, the model doesn't work for sometime now and Congress has refused to address it for years. They were already deep in the red and were losing money before Covid19. Covid19 is pushing them over the edge.

Sometimes going over the edge will force people to address the problem. They got 10 billion for covid already.

Outside of the huge "R naught" number apparently dutifully reported by China, it is stunning to see that nothing but the travel ban is being suggested in this report in lieu of "aggressive containment" strategy. And this is despite numerous reports that there were numerous media reports suggesting that travel ban is useless in trying to prevent covid19 making landfall on American soil.

Is it possible that while the information coming to the Trump administration is timely and correct but due to lack of understanding that people who are close to Trump have about containment of pandemics, they just don't react correctly to it. But it would seem that threat of losing 500 million American lives and 4 trillions dollars in economic loss would cause them to worry enough to ask for a 2nd expert opinion or two..

Then again, Trump doesn't read his briefings - he'd rather golf or go to rallies.

    Thanks for the link.

This was a memo from one of their economic adviser. I imagine there were other memos from HHS and CDC, that were dutifully set aside or not taken seriously either.

The problem illustrates a lack of good leadership, an admin that can priority correctly and is on the watch for things like this. As reported, there were playbook already on the shelve for this kind of virus, meaning they have a plan they could have executed on. But as we know too often, this admin does not like experts, think they know the best and can do thing much better than anyone. Even that memo has this phrase - "we move in Trump Time to solve problem". It's that type of arrogant culture mixed with a guy that doesn't know jack, make erratic decision, likely is mentally ill and is distracted by watching Fox news too much that got us in this mess.

Losing 500 million american lives? Would some people die twice? There’s not even that many people in the country.

China shamefully hid this from the world to avoid that others think they had it under control. All because some Chinese market was allowed to sell bat meat. Please come into the modern world and stop eating bats, losers.

And you please link to sources with your claims, otherwise no one believes you as you have a bad habit of making stuff up and outright lying.

    The thing started in Wuhan
The only reason they don’t name it Wuhan virus because it’s China and many countries use China for business like the nba and everyone else cause their workers will do anything (see American factory with the Chinese ladies picking up broken glass with their hands)
If this came from Africa like Ebola they would have named it another African location like Wakanda virus
