There are so many fascinating things in that article. Most notably: For the first four weeks of the outbreak, South Korea marshaled high-tech resources to respond aggressively while promoting transparency. The government tracked the movements of travelers arriving from China, for example by tracking the use of credit cards, checking CCTV footage, or mandating they download an app to report their health status every day. For those infected, the government published an extremely detailed list of their whereabouts, down to which seat they sat in at a movie theater. The info was also presented (with names removed) in an interactive website that allows the public to trace the movement of every single individual with coronavirus. To be sure, there were real privacy concerns—as when one unfortunate patient in Daejeon had news of their visit to a risqué lingerie store blasted to every smartphone in their city. Yet on balance, these disclosures did much to calm the nerves and prevent unnecessary panic in the population. By Feb. 17, South Korea’s tally of COVID-19 patients stood at 30, with zero deaths. Ten patients were fully cured and discharged, with some of the discharged patients declaring the disease was “not something as serious as one might think.” The government seemed ready to declare victory.
Italy's neighbors need to temporarily close their borders with Italy and offer what help they can while doing so, in my opinion.
Shincheonji’s bad theology makes for worse public health. Shincheonji teaches illness is a sin, encouraging its followers to suffer through diseases to attend services in which they sit closely together, breathing in spittle as they repeatedly amen in unison.
You complain a lot about people "reading your mind" and what not and you do it as well? A bit hypocritical no? By the way, for a "moderate democrat" why do you post so much pro-Trump content from right-wing sources?
Viruses do not like humidity nor warmth. This is one reason you get a fever when you get the flu and shouldn't try to lower your body temperature unless you have a high fever. No warm weather doesn't stop a virus cold but look at the flu - it is seasonal for a reason! This was the biggest mistake in bringing back infected patients to the use and letting them circulate the virus. It's now February and ideal season for viruses. Every week we get closer to summer is immensely helpful. The more time we can buy before this really hits us the better.
This is alarming No excuse for how little we are able to test right now. We are incredibly unprepared. Instead of trying to worry about do-nothing-Dems, the administration needs to take action and start putting forth a real plan. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...hamper-u-s-coronavirus-response-idUSKCN20L36Z
there seems to be some disagreement about whether any "defunding of CDC" has actually occurred: https://reason.com/2020/02/28/no-tr...le-arent-blaming-corona-beer-for-the-disease/ excerpt: No, the CDC's Budget Hasn't Been Cut During Tuesday's Democratic primary debate, several candidates—including former Vice President Joe Biden, former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D–Mass.)—accused the Trump administration of cutting key funding from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) that impaired America's readiness for a pandemic. There is plenty to critique about the way the Trump administration has handled the outbreak so far (Mike Pence as virus czar? Really?), but this attack is inaccurate. Trump has proposed budget cuts for the CDC in each of his budgets since taking office, but Congress never approved those proposals. Trump's most recent budget plan calls for a 16 percent cut to the CDC, but that budget has yet to be approved by Congress. It's fair to say Trump has tried to defund the CDC, but it's inaccurate to say that he has succeeded—or that those fictitious cuts have affected the agency's ability to respond to COVID-19. When Trump was asked about those budget cuts, and about his firing of some top CDC officials, at Wednesday's press briefing on the virus, he offered a pretty good defense. "I'm a businessperson. I don't like having thousands of people around when you don't need them," said Trump. "When we need them, we can get them back very quickly." Indeed, that's a good way for the government to operate.

more good news . . . Dr. Doom says Trump is out! Book it. https://theweek.com/speedreads/8991...says-economist-who-predicted-financial-crisis excerpt: Roubini, who is often nicknamed Dr. Doom for his frequent pessimistic predictions, also saw doom and gloom for Trump's future as president as a result of any economic strife. Asked by Der Spiegel, Roubini said Trump would likely try to benefit politically from the outbreak, but "will lose the election, that's for sure." Pointing to past incumbent presidents getting ousted amid geopolitical tensions that damaged the economy, he said "The Democratic field is poor, but Trump is dead. Quote me on that!"
If we can't work on this together then bipartisanship is dead for good. This virus doesn't look at race, political party, equality, etc and we need to get our heads out of ours asses and start working together. Will it happen? Doubtful.
