Actually, you are wrong on this. It doesn't matter how much you hate the Mavs or their players, its a fact that Brandon Wright is the best bench player for the Mavs this season and probably one of the best in the league, very good chance to compete for the 6th men award. Nobody give a sh#t about how he played before or where is he coming from, people are looking at NOW. And now he is playing great in the Mavs. His pick and roll and finish around the rim is probably the best around the league this year. He can contribute and more importantly, he has great value also. If the Celtics will get this deal done before Friday, they can flip him again before the trade deadline to another contender - think the Cavs, whose desperate wanting some inside helps.
I like Wright and think people are undervaluing his game and progression on this board.. His hangup is he is an UFA after this season and its not like the Celts are going to use him for the big 8th seed push. If he was on a long term reasonable contract he would be awesome or even a RFA.. as an UFA he offers little to the Celts.
the thing is, we can use Rondo in the playoffs where everything is almost halfcourt set and he can provide clutch plays better than Dragic..
As for the Rockets side, anyone who followed Morey's history will understand he will not trade a rising player like D-Mo for an expiring contract. He is the one who will do it the opposite. He is doing this actually to help the Celtics to jack up the price only.
perhaps the 'apology' could have been sans the 'sane person' comment. But no biggie. 1. LA is not on the market. We're dealing in total hypotheticals. Portland isn't going to trade LA. 2. My point was I want a better player than LA if I'm going to send DMo out. I don't think the difference between DMo and LA is that great that it moves the needle to obvious champion for us. Yes, LA is shooting the 3. At a rate of 1 3-ball every 36 minutes. You guys are making points about Rondo not fitting. Here's a fun fact for you about LaMarcus' fit here. LaMarcus is currently taking over 76% of his shots between 3 feet and 23 feet. And his shooting percentage on those shots is .............30%!!!!! So while I like LaMarcus a whole lot. I don't think he's a great fit here either. Not when he's taking 77% of his shots at spots on the floor that we don't like shots from and making 30% of them.
Honestly, I thought the Mavs signing of Chandler Parsons would've crippled their cap flexibility for the next couple of years. Dunno how Rondo can fit into all of this. At this point, I'd probably be in the minority when I say that Dragic > Rondo for this Rockets team. Gogi can be brought in for a much friendlier contract and his versatility is a plus.
obviously the ultimate trade lol would improve the team by 20 wins http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=nrsm7ha
Tell you what though. If Brandan Wright goes to Boston...I'd be willing to give up an asset to get him out of Boston and backing up Dwight and DMo. He is severely underrated and below the radar defensively. A Howard/DMo/Wright trifecta in the paint is definitely championship worthy. My dream roster at this point: Add Goran, Wright, Brewer Goran/Bev Harden/Brewer Ariza/Brewer Dwight/Wright DMo/Wright I'd love that as my top 8 plus fill in the edges with shooters. See if we can get RayRay on the BAE. Find one more backup big for 6 extra fouls. Fish for more shooters.
I'd definitely say you are not in the minority there. Rondo can't shoot, his defense has been off in recent seasons, he's coming off a serious injury that he's never seemed to have gotten 100% on, he's got Kobe's dog mentality which wouldn't mesh. Meanwhile Dragic plays good defense, can play either guard position, plays well off ball with the ability to take over offensively, has a great attitude, is lefty dominant and has history with Houston. I take Dragic 100 out of 100 times if I have the choice. We don't need Rondo with the strides Harden has taken this year because Rondo isn't going to score very much, we need someone who can play with the Starters while leading the second unit in scoring and that is exactly who Dragic is and Beverly Dragic and Harden can all play together too.
Ok. So you are a GM of a team about to rebuild majorly and you are about to trade your sole all-star player: -Are you trying to tell me that Brandan Wright on a 1 year deal is making you jump through hoops as the answer to all your problems? Is he a guy you can build around? Is a guy you are even going to keep or WANT to keep if the price gets too high this Summer? I get that Brandan Wright has made himself into a serviceable backup big. Nobody said he wasn't. But what is it about Brandan Wright in his SEVENTH year in the league on an expiring deal that makes you say THAT IS THE CENTERPIECE of a deal I want for a rebuilding team???? Please help me understand the logic. Or maybe the fact is, maybe the league knows he's the biggest disposable salary on the Mavs roster that MUST be going to the Mavs in a Rondo deal, and Ainge is trying to sell the league that Brandan Wright > whatever assets the other GM's are offering so they bump up their offers????
If we are getting Dragic or Rondo, there is most likely a guarantee that he extends on a deal as well. There is a zero percent chance that the player the Rockets are seeking via trade will look to bolt via FA. Morey wont make that trade, especially considering he is actually in a position of strength... The Rockets must be prepared to lose a valuable piece whether it is Jones or Donatas. Right now DMo's value has skyrocketed based on his performance, and his height. It is hard to get a 7 foot PF that moves as fast as he does. He has flashed levels high levels of skill on the post and on defense. Replacing someone like that will be much harder for Morey. Terrence, aside from his abysmal playoff showing, has proven his worth playing excellent minutes last season. If the Rockets were to trade for Rondo: This would be most ideal for the Rockets-Terry, Jones, Canaan, Capella, NO pick This is most likely what the Celtics want- Papa, DMo, Canaan, Capella, NO pick, plus second rounders and cash
How many draft picks does Boston want to accumulate? They already have a ton, and by acquiring 3 more 1st rounders, plus who knows how many 2nd rounders, they'd have a king's ransom. At some point though, you have to pay the piper, and they'd have to monetize those picks into something tangible.
All those picks + their top 3 players to OKC if Durant tells OKC he's going elsewhere Free Agency. (Just throwing something out there!)
Can't extend. Whoever/If ever the Rockets trade for one of them, they will have to be prepared for the possibilities of un-restricted free agency, and be prepared to pay current market value IF they decide the resign. And market value will probably be at the max. Hence why the offers are probably going to be rather low. Like Brandan Wright and a late first round pick low. Look at the Luol Deng trade as pretty much the highest value any team will give in a deal like this for a player on this level of caliber. -Expiring contract/s -a late first round pick -2 second round picks -and MAYBE a first round pick swap That's best case scenario for Ainge. I sincerely doubt he gets offered a really good young player like D-Mo, much less a Julius Randle, or a Macklemore. If Sacramento or the Lakers offer any of their young pieces in this type of trade they are really playing with fire on this one. I would think GM's of the past have learned the lesson from others.
