I'd rather have Nick Young over Brewer. Young can actually take over Harden's scoring role when James goes to the bench. I suppose Brewer can supplement some of Ariza's role off the bench but Swaggy is the more talented player. Brewer can't shoot and and gambles too much on defense. Can't complain too much if he's basically gifted to the Rockets though.
Playing out of position? Are you really just trying to argue? Who is playing out of position? Also, in the modern NBA players play multitude of positions. D-Mo and Pap already play the 4 and 5... so there is no real "out of position". Also, it isn't the only solution. The question is, does Brewer for part of the TPE and a second rounder make the Rockets better? The answer IMO is yes!
Just because they can fill in at a spot in a pinch doesn't mean that's their position. We've had James Harden at the 4 before, does that mean he's a PF? Of course not. Papa's actual position is SF, but he sometimes goes to the 4 when we play small ball, that doesn't change his real position though. DMo can fill in at the 5 in a pinch, but he's not a 5, he's a 4. Put him at the 5 and you are marginalizing his effectiveness because his advantage over 4's is MUCH more pronounced than against 5's. That said, I don't really argue with going after Brewer even though he's a terrible shooter and a vastly overrated defender. He'd help solidify the back of the bench and allow Harden and Ariza to rest more and that's valuable to this team.
I view Brewer the same, and like you said, if we give up nothing and stash him being just another guy in the bench, he could help. But the questions remain : 1. Will the wolves give him up for nothing, like a late secong round pick 2. And is this the best morey can do to help the rockets consider we could use more helps on the 4&5 spots.
I read recently that Nugs are trying to attach JaVale or Dano to any deal. With DHo's knees what(ever) they are might getting McGee make some sense + WC?
What would it take to get that? A deal to acquire them, would be a deal that Morey blew his final load for a championship. better win with that.
You figure Dragic gets 15-16 mil in the open market(teams expecting the windfall of TV money/increased cap) and that puts them in the 68 mil territory. Assuming he doesn't fall off, the increased money flow will mean Green will also tender a larger offer to retain - I'm guessing as much as 8 million. That's $76 million and a 2-3 million cap hold for their lotto pick and possibly another 2-3 mil for the Lakers' pick if they fall outside of the bottom 5. Then your right on the edge of the luxury tax if not over(which we all know Sarver will not stand for). Tucker I think you could easily trade - he's one of the best values in the league but Phoenix would need to replace his production and I don't know how you do that any cheaper than 5 million. Thomas I'm not high on - he's yet another tweener score first guard of which there are a lot in the league. I'm sure he's tradeable to someone but this brings me to my main point. Right now Phoenix is one of the worst teams in the league WITH Thomas, Dragic, Bledsoe, Tucker, etc. Your telling me that Robert Sarver is going to want to spend more money to field a team the same as it is now with maybe one or two more rookies? I'm having a hard time buying it...
