Actually, Dwight's first game missed this year(against the Warriors) was due to flu-like symptoms. Like the Laker game, that one was a last minute announcement. And it helped fuel the conspiracy theories when he showed up the very next night at a movie premiere looking completely healthy.
I know someone close to Dwight at they are saying it is doubtful he returns this year. They weren't sure if it was injury of related to this pending legal matter.
Everyone here is speculating about Dwight's injury, but this is the exact same question I'm having with the Terrance Jones injury. At least Dwight did miss a game earlier with the knee issues and came back wearing knee pads as mentioned. With TJ there was just some mysterious injury that no one saw happen, along with a crazy return date of "One Day". He's not even on the bench at games, or traveling with the team. Could someone please explain that? Or have I missed this conversation?
TJ isn't traveling with the team, but he has been on the bench for at least two recent games. Here's a good article on his injury -- http://rockets.clutchfans.net/7911/terrence-jones-appears-unlikely-to-be-ready-anytime-soon/
FWIW, Dwight hadn't missed any games due to a knee injury prior to the Laker game. He bumped knees with someone during the home opener vs. Boston, and that's when he raised the idea of wearing kneepads. He didn't miss any games because of it, though.
Having trouble finding the origins of this Howard/suspension issue/rumor. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
I think people just thought it was suspicious that his knee issue, which wasn't well fleshed out in the public, became a lingering one as the media outlets began reporting on the abuse allegations. The initial injury seemed to be minor, so the longer he was out without explanation, the more suspicious people got. Honestly, I think the real explanation is that the Bill O'Brien way of dealing with injury to the media is leaking over to the Rockets. Very little explanation or timetables for injured guys (who knew T. Jones' injury was so bad?)
Thought his leg has a nerve injury giving im either no feeling or numbness. Nerve injury could take minutes to heal to years.
Not only has he been on the bench, he's been wearing bright blue suits and laughing it up. I don't think he's hiding from anything, must just be really making sure his knee is right. Not to say that he might not get actually suspended later. What does the NBA gain by "unofficially" and secretly suspending him? If they need to suspend him for real (after the law plays out) they will.
Ahh yes. Correct you are. Wasn't there a single game he missed through knee soreness? Not sure if it was a single game missed, but he definitely started wearing knee pads to protect himself.
So, what you are telling me is that they are close enough to Dwight to know that he will probably miss the entire season, but not close enough to know whether it is legal issues or health that is going to keep him out?
